It's discouraging to hear that the guards at Gitmo has stepped up their abuse of prisoners since they know the place is shutting down. Although, from what I've seen, when people are put in prisoner/guard positions (even in experiments where the "prisoners" were just volunteers who had done nothing wrong and both guards and prisoners knew it) the guards tend to develop a pattern of abuse which generally increases in its severity over time.

Ummm, before you buy into everything that article said, you might want to revisit past Fark threads about this same guy. #1, he wasn't just "suspected of visiting an Al Q. training camp" - even he and his lawyer have admitted he was there and took the training. #2, this "totally innocent" guy wasn't even arrested for that originally, he was arrested for trying to use a fake passport. The training camp info only came up after they traced his movements to try to figure out why he went to the trouble of trying to disguise his travels. #3, this was the same camp where captured training manuals showed part of their training was to always claim "torture" wether it actually occurred - or not.

The premiss is that the USA should only honor other countries' extradiction requests when the other country in question has at least as good a history of good treatment of prisoners as the USA.

Those who hold to this are ridiculous on at least two fronts - #1 being that since they're the exact same crowd hyping how bad prisoners have it in US custody - if by their own rhetoric we're the worst then logically most everyone else is better than us.

#2 being that since IN REALITY the vast majority of prisoners, given a choice, would pick US custody over (say) Moroccan or Saudi Arabian OR FRENCH custody or over most any other nationality prison you could name. Hell, there are prisoners in G.Bay RUGHT NOW who are legally fighting to remain (in that supposed hell-hole / torture-camp) because their home countries will possibly want them to answer questions about their activities upon their return - and won't be NEARLY as non-torture about it as we've been to them. Unlike their "useful idiot" supporters in the Western Left, they're not idiots themselves who equate imprisonment and discomfort with imprisonment and mutilation.

The short-form is that if Bush follows the Law and releases a foreign prisoner to his home country and they're not as nice to him as we are - it's Bush's fault.
