You'd think threats on Bush's life would have had them calling the FBI, ATF, the DEA, the CIA, the Marshall's Office, every Sheriff's office in the country, NCIS, Homeland Security, the RCMP, MI5, SAS, the Army, the Navy, the Marines, the Air Force, the Coast Guard, Transit Cops, all the security guards at all the malls, Campus Police, Interpol and Beefeaters.

Or can it just be concluded that the far right serves a bunch of ignorant half-wits who can't form a reaction to something they don't like other than physical violence?

Yet I expect we're about to be treated to a steaming helping of false equivalence anyway.

You wanna know the REAL reason he's gotten so many death threats?

It starts with an "H" and ends with a "e's black!"

Tor_Eckman [TotalFark] 2009-03-08 01:22:25 PM
I think it was rather obvious that Cheney would not have been any improvement over Bush, so what would have been the point.

Same with Obama/Biden. And even if you took both out, you'd still have Pelosi.

I think most on the dirty, hippy libtard side are smart enough to realize this. Wing-nut righties, not so much.

it's a sad commentary on our times that I have to say i'm not surprised to hear about this. I mean yeah, I disagree with Obama's politics but I kind of respect the guy. Its just sad that some people can't look past the color of his skin and want him dead for no reason OTHER than the fact that he looks differently than they do.

I am completely unsurprised about this. I was honestly worried that someone was going to try to take him out at the inauguration. It will be a miracle if the USSS is able to stop all the potential attacks on Obama over the next 8 years by these wingnuts and the way the election denigrated into racism didn't help either.

UNC_Samurai [TotalFark] 2009-03-08 01:35:23 PM
The only solace I can offer is that, typically, these assholes are usually just that: a bunch of bored blowhards, terrified by the pace of a world that is passing them by, who have nothing better to do than complain, blame others for their shiatty lives and spew their hatred and pitifully ignorant views online.

A google times, this - this is exactly what drives a lot of not just extremist and fundamentalist viewpoints all over the world, but also what brings about the social conservative values that demand gay marriage bans.

UNC_Samurai [TotalFark] 2009-03-08 01:36:55 PM

Bah, no need to assassinate Obama. Remember, all the "bubba" militias are going to have an uprising, make the country safe from communist muslins- right after they get that Trans-Am off blocks and can get down to Kroger to pick up a pack of smokes.

No, racism is just the excuse. the root cause of our current issues have more to do with philosophy...and money. Not to say there aren't wackjobs out there who are having a complete mental breakdown over some black dude in the white house, but the fuel for unrest has more to do with money than it does with skin color. Billion dollar bailouts for wall street and not a dime for health care? And the kick to the head is when our 'leaders' say that funding health care is 'too expensive'.

I could rant for days about the evils of using taxpayer money to bail out anyone. I think ANY bailouts are wrong no matter what the cause. But if you decide to start bailing out the rich guys, then you'd better bail out the poor guys too. Otherwise you eventually get riots in the streets and a LOT of hatred and civil unrest.

This kind of thing didn't start with the bailouts. It started when Obama beat Hillary in the primaries.

In other words, resentment. Those sentiments have been around for ages, and have been leveraged successfully by the GOP for a long time. See Reagan's "welfare queens," Nixons's "the first civil right is to be free from civil disobedience," and so on.

Anyone among those wishing death on Obama should know something:

It's too late. You lost.

Your ultimate goal, clearly, was to prevent a black President from ever being elected. You are too late. We have one. He has been sworn in. He is currently serving and signing bills into law, major bills in fact. It's in the history books now. You cannot change history. You cannot go back in time and elect John McCain instead.

And now that the first one has been elected, it's no longer a matter of if we will elect the second and the third, for it will happen again. It is instead a question of when, and who. Children born in the future will learn about the black man who was elected President, and the concept will not be alien to them as it was to all before them.

The genie is out of the bottle, and nothing you can say or do will ever put him back.

I didn't see a black person until I was 14. In Halifax it's more normal but in the boonies it's 99% white with a 1% margin of error.

Ding ding ding, we have a winner. Attributing the Republican's electoral successes to racism is glib, but denying that racism played a substantial role in fueling noted resentment is flatly retarded.

It's usually people who live in places like Ohio and appalachian KY that resent having a "n***** president". Personally I wouldn't mind if the USSS summarily executed them all. Our national gene pool doesn't need that kind of pollution.

This is to be expected.

I look Obama on TV, his name captioned with the word "President" in front of it, and I still can't believe it and have to pinch myself.

For a lot of these guys, they are having the polar opposite reaction. They have stepped through to a bizarro nether-universe where their Proud White Heritage has been stood on it's head.

In Obama, they see the ascendency of people of color; in that, they see the coming death of their 'race'.

And since racial pride is the only kind they have, in their sad, hopeless and pathetic little lives, Obama's presidency has upended their worldview. It is severing that last bit of lifeline keeping them connected to reality.

It's bound to unhinge more than a few of them.

I grew up in that part of the world and spent the first 24 years of my life looking for redeeming qualities in those people. I found none. The age of the left wing wacko seems to be over. Almost all the wackos lately have either been apolitical types (Hinkley) or ultra-right wing anti-government, sometimes racist groups (Unibomber, OKC, that guy who shot up a unitarian church). There are hardly any left wing groups with pretenses of armed revolt, there are many right wing ultra-patriot types comparitively.
