I took a little nap where the roots all twist, squished a rotten peach in my fist.
Then dreamed about you . . . woman.
Poked my finger down inside.
Make a little room for a ant to hide.
Natures candy in my hand, or can, or a pie.

Great lyric.

Why do people still say 'lead singer'? It inst like we're talking about 'The 4 Tops' or The Jackson 5'.

Because there are people in bands that sing the lead vocal?

There's always frontman, vocalist or Andy Rooneyesque Misguided Gripe-Fueler if you want to mix it up.

Three Crooked Squirrels: Great lyric.

I am myself a fan of "Dune Buggy":

A little blind spider took the wheel
Navigatin' grass blades completely by feel
Got a sassy chassis, sparkles in the sun
All four small bald fat tires rockin' through the sand and burnin' up

Subby here and friend of Ballew. Chris is really geeked about doing the kiddie thing. I think he has at least 3 or 4 more kids albums already written and recorded! BTW, his site for this stuff is www.babypantsmusic.com (new window) .

Any radio people in here? I know a lot of morning shows use Fark for their offbeat news source. The Presidents are touring again (some Europe dates and an East Coast jaunt). If you want to contact Chris for an interview regarding the Caspar Babypants stuff, definitely get a hold of him thru his website. He'd love to talk about it.

...you should hear his new version of "I Knew An Old Lady Who Swallered a Fly." So far, it has unicorns, monkeys and a wombat...

I was just gonna say... he's not just a kids entertainer... I know he's playing here in Toronto in April or so. I believe it's the first Presidents show in Toronto. I can't wait.
I talked to Chris a few years back about possibly coming north of the border for a show. The only part I remember is him saying "doll hairs" instead of dollars. He was a nice guy though.

If you claim you're a friend of his...tell him for me that he's always had that "Kid-friendly, but could musically beat the crap outta Raffi" vibe. Thanx! :D

Oh...and Caspar Babypants? BWAHAHAHAH!!! XD!! Kinda made me think of this:

www.marshall.edu

/He really ought to do a cover of "Bored Bored Bored"...my niece's dad is a friend of THIS guy, and I loved it to pieces; it should be right up Chris/Caspar's alley! (sorry, but I can't find an audio clip of it):D

I'll make sure he sees this thread again...but hell, tell him yerself! He checks his email and is quite 'accessible' as rock stars go... Go over to www.babypantsmusic.com and tell him hi.

Very cool, my 4yo daughter just watched all of his vids on Youtube. She already loves The Presidents so this is perfect.

The little boy in the "Bug In the Cuff" video is my 4-year old son, Brennen. We were goofing with his puppet theater and my camera. Chris took the footage and turned it into the video. :D

As cool as all this might be, nothing will ever beat Burl Ives' The Lollypop Tree for excellence in kids music!

He's no ZO2. Frakking love that show.

Funny, I just found Burl Ives "Animal Folk" album at a flea market. I'm sending it to Chris Ballew (he's been studying the 'old masters' of kiddie music).

i'm considering seeing the presidents when they come to CT next month. i'm actually a big fan of their later stuff - freaked out and small and love everybody.

/but you can't keep warm in the winter in december in the city when it's 32 degrees below zero with a safety pin!

Martstar 2009-03-08 09:08:25 PM
You know, this does make oddly logical sense and it's good to see him finding a second career in it. I saw the Presidents around the time of their first album, and I don't know that I've ever seen another band have as much fun performing, and it's neat to see that transferred to the kiddie set. Hopefully he's still active at it a few years from now when I get around to breeding.

Goonie, tell Chris we're big POTUS fans. My kids love the Peaches video.

The President's debut album was one of the first cds I ever bought, still love it.

I agree with Dune Buggy being excellent lyrics. I can't think of EPCOT without thinking of Dune Buggy and vice versa. Some friends and I went to EPCOT and drank around the world, somewhere around Japan we started singing Dune Buggy really loud. Good times. Also, when in Mexico we took a dune buggy excursion, no one could understand why I wanted the blue one so bad.

Unfortunately, my 13 year old is a little too old for the kid's stuff. She does like the PUSA stuff though.

NyQuiLlama 2009-03-09 10:39:52 AM
Haha, my 3.5 year old son's favorite song is "Volcano" by POTUS.

"Love Delicatessen" is a great song to hear first thing on the drive in to work. Heck, it's just a great song. Brilliant wordplay.

Amen...and amen.

Unfortunately, (from what I understand...I'm just a fan myself) the problem was with Mix. He wanted to take the band into a more heavy metal realm. The Presidents were more interested in their Seattle-meets-Stax sound. Either way, you're damn right. That stuff kicked all kinds of ass.

This is the strangest thread I have ever seen on Fark. People are actually saying nice things about someone who is doing something nice! I love it.

/Oh yeah, and I love POTUS
//My kids do too.
///Been a fan since the first album came out
