"And I've said this all across the country when I talk to parents about education, government has to fulfill its obligations to fund education, but parents have to do their job too. We've got to turn off the TV set, we've got to put away the video game, and we have to tell our children that education is not a passive activity, you have to be actively engaged in it. If we encourage that attitude and our community is enforcing it, I have no doubt we can compete with anybody in the world." ~~ Barack Obama

That's one thing I actually admire about him. I hope his policies advance that sentiment.

Obama constantly stresses the importance of personal responsibility to the health of the country. Is Wright getting talking points from Steele now or something?

absoluteparanoia 2009-03-06 11:51:36 AM
My take, as an anti-Obama person whose friends are all anti-Obama, but I've dated a Obamatron (and she was so polite about it, I barely noticed).

1. you do not hope around me
2. you do not hope around my friends (same reason, they don't like hope).
3. you do not hope inside, anywhere
4. you do not hope on my property. that's right. I don't care that there's a deck, don't bring change to it. This also includes areas close enough that the elitism would enter my home- aka, under windows, etc.
5. If you smell so badly of patchouli that you leave areas of my home smelling of hippies, then you're no longer welcome in my home.

And I'm a pretty hardcore anti-Obama. So if your GF has rules stricter than mine, you've got issues.

Makh [TotalFark] 2009-03-06 11:54:37 AM
Isn't that the stuff, Obama has been saying over and over again in his speeches?

I'm Canadian, and I was expecting Obama to save me. This is not fair.

Diogenes: Obama constantly stresses the importance of personal responsibility to the health of the country.

Handing out hundreds of $billions to failed businesses, and paying off deadbeat's loans isn't exactly stressing personal responsibility you know.

Damnit, Barry....pragmatism has no place in politics. In politics, you find one extreme and argue it, while your opponent argues in favor of the other extreme. That way, it's assured that everybody loses, which is the way we like it in America. Why don't you take your reasonable, rational arguments to godless Russia, comrade?
