Stalin has been dead a long time now. Is there a chance that most remaining Russians are actually reasonable people doing the best they can with what they've got?

We can only hope that Hillary Clinton has the wherewithal to match wits with Vladimir Putin. She's no Sarah Palin, after all.

Unfair. Sarah Palin has had years to study Putin from her porch.

Hillary was too busy dodging sniper fire to have the luxury of full preparation.

The sniper fire was nothing. She was actually being modest; evidently the Serbs were also fielding a squad of Zealots led by a Dark Templar, which Hillary had to beat to death with her shoes.

Still, she's no Sarah Palin. She'd better keep her eyes on Putin's head at all times. No blinking.

So glad that the saber-rattling appears to be toning down! Hope the Czech and Polish people will investigate (follow the money) and punish those who agreed to make them pawns in this pathetic and ill-conceived charade.

Yep, it's a legit site. Drew gave his blessing for two guys to start it up from Russia.

This was a long time ago that this happened, but it used to be a regular joke on Fark a few years back.

As a former Cold Warrior, (wow, that looks hella lame in preview mode) I can attest to the fact that the greatest weapon used against America in the last 25 years was... Bush. I am actually dead serrious.

Russia knows that they will never be able to touch us on our own soil. They do not have the projection of force necessary to expand their influence above Guatemala. Additionally, Canada (yeah, Canada) would anahalate them in a land war (serriously, their military actually really farking rocks and they got that area on lockdown)

Thus, our ongoing conflict have been waged via various proxy wars. Hacking away at each others little spheres of influence around the world, until one's international influence is rendered limp or at best, one nation goes bankrupt (see: Cold Wwar I)

We get Georgia, they take S. Ossetia, we get Iraq -- they strengthen ties with Iran, rinse and repeat.

Now, Bush was the rub. Knowing less than jack-shiat about waging asymetrical warfare, and even less shiat about waging a cold war, he got us caught-up in a clusterfark that far exceedes any seen in the history of combat. The fiscal/ethical implications of the two wars that he waged placed us in a possition of vulnerabilty that gave Putin a 6 year hard-on.

Think that's a stretch? The only advantage Bush had was that he was in control of the most powerful military force on the planet. This is why we only lost 5,000 dudes, killed 1 million + of "them" and still lost the war.

The key to winning wars is having a clear perspective of what your actual goal is. We got Saddam, which was a very good thing. Everything beyond that has been nothing more than a series of mistakes that do nothing but cost us more and more money. And prevented us from being a lot more pro-active with our military.

Afghanistan is worse. We can chase the Taliban all over the region, but unless we work with the Afghan people (which we are finally doing now) they will just scatter, rest, and re-attach themselves when we are not paying attention.

They are draining our coiffers, just like the Muj did in the 70s-80's.

Pakistan will be the next level of difficulty. If we think that Iraq and Afghanistan are bad, Pakistan will make those look like the Falkand War.

So what does all of this have to with Russia? Russia obviously isn't supplying the Taliban (enemy of my enemy really doesn't apply here given the level of hate between Russia and Taliban). But as our "eternal enemy/best friend" Russia doesn't have to lift a finger. They just sit back and watch us drain ourselves in the desert.

For a hyperpower, wars are not lost via loss of life... it's all about money and influence. That is something that Bush never recognized, and why he squandered both at such an unusually extreme level.

You don't see the opportunity for a royally-funny headline on Fark pass without even an attempt at it very often.
