I've never met a woman/man who was the victim of abuse and walked away after the first time it occurred. It seems to take numerous beatings whether physical, psychological or both, before they walk away. They keep clinging onto this hope that things will change. I've never seen it happen.

My ex threw me into a wall after an argument. I came back swinging and told him this was the only warning he'd ever receive. Violence would not be tolerated and I would NEVER let him touch me in anger again. He began crying and apologizing, and threatened to kill himself if I left him. I stayed a few months more for fear he would actually do it. Then I decided if a broken relationship was all it took for him to kill himself, he had the problem not me. I ended it and never looked back. I never thought of myself as having been smart, strong or brave for leaving and would never look down on someone who is compelled to stay in this situation. The reality just "clicked" that I would would suffer the brunt of his life problems and I didn't need to expose myself (or my son) to it.

I love the amount of TotalFarkers who obviously spend half their waking hours on Fark yet have no clue who these two are, and for some reason seem proud of it.
