Wow, a natural hat-trick of Des Moines greenlights.

Indeed. And none involved corn or Dubuque, either.

DOA, also used to describe what happens to most people when they find themselves in Des Moines.

In a certain sense you stop aging when you die. In another sense that when you start aging.

I was hoping for Deparment of Elder Aging Development.

As long as they are renaming things, why not rename truant officers to Public Education Department Officers.

FTA: ""I am offended by the use of the acronym for the department," said Rep. Dave Heaton, a 68-year-old Republican from Mount Pleasant. "You can't have an acronym like this when you're referring to elderly people. I don't like it.""

OK, it was stupid, but OFFENDED??? It was a dumb mistake, Davey boy. Get over it and stop being such an old prick.

An agency as excitingly different as its title?

Edmond O'Brien and Dennis Quaid unavailable for comment.

I jumped out of my chair laughing when I read that. Thank you subby and thank you Iowa.

I'm so pedantic that I thought "Shouldn't it be Department of Gerontological Resources" in order to obscure their purpose, before I caught on.

I just saw one of my DMR links got approved; pretty sure that Iowa's getting just as bad as Florida.

Department of Aging has a great ring to it, though. Think of all the good they could spread; on Halloween the DOA could come to all the nursing homes dressed as Reapers handing out candy with the residents.

I work at the Pennsylvania Department of Aging, so I'm getting a kick out of these replies.

Simple solution:

Department of Human Aging

Boom. Fixed.

Some people don't like the word "elderly," noted Rep. Janet Petersen, D-Des Moines, who led discussion on Senate File 204.

..wtf

Not an acronym. USA, NDA, and DOA are not acronyms.

NASA is an acronym.
