Who the fark is the Flaming Lips?

Who the fark cares what they said?

/Actually kinda like The Flaming Lips.

You know, the Flaming Lips are my favorite band, but Wayne is getting a little bit older, and I can't imagine that the guy isn't stoned 24/7... so maybe there it was either a "get off my lawn" problem, or a "I don't really remember which band Arcade Fire actually are".

Or maybe Winn Butler is a whiny pussy.

THE WORLD MAY NEVER KNOW.

The Flaming Lips apparently talked smack on Beck, too.

Beck is way better than the Flaming farking Lips.

Therefore, Flaming Lips get tossed in my "bands I have no respect for" bin.

The Flaming Lips were touring and making ridiculously experimental music when Beck was still huffing paint in short pants, so it seems kind of douchey to claim that either is the better artist than the other. Beck is awesome, but is it easy for me to believe he's the Roger Waters self-obessed kind of genius? You absolutely betcha.

I say this because I have just now read the article to which your referring. What Wayne says about the dude is pretty realistic. Have you toured with Beck? Do you know Beck? How many conversations have you had with Beck?

Ok, so there you go.

Pretty much every Montreal band are farking twats.

Whether they are actually popular or not they all have that "rockstaritis" thing going on - like their shiat don't stink, and their music is the end all and be all (the only Montreal band that doesn't have that is Mobile, who are really a great bunch of guys, and nice as can be).

So it is quite possible that Arcade Fire ARE douchbags (except for Jeremy - the drummer - who's an Ottawa boy and a great guy).

I was slightly confused by this line:
So...I am not sure Wayne is the best judge (based on seeing us play at a couple of festivals) if we are righteous, kind and goodhearted people like The Edge and Justin Timberlake

Justin Timberlake? Really? Everyone I know that's dealt with him say he's a conceited, ego-driven prick... but those aren't "industry" people, just regular folks.

I've heard the opposite actually...I've met two people "in the business" (promoters) who have hung out with him and they say he's a great guy...who knows...everyone has "bad days"?

Well, that was kind of my point. The people I heard it from aren't "in the business" they're just regular people like bartenders and whatnot in Memphis who have encountered him pretty regularly when he's in town, which makes me wonder if he's only cool to industry people.

FTA: 'At times like these I am comforted by knowing that even though Wayne slammed Beck all those years ago, he seems like a really nice guy to me. I guess everyone has a different idea of what being pompous means.'

Funny how Wayne points out what a couple of wentzes AF and Beck are and yet AF and Beck like each other;

Actually, I'm not surprised to read this because it is a fact of
life that 'azzh*les attract(each other)'

BTW the Stupid Frogs had to sue Beck - who they knew and hung out with- to get paid royalties for a sample of their's that Beck used on Odelay 'two turntables and a big drum break' to be exact.

Wayne's issues with Beck are that when they were touring together, Beck wouldn't lift a finger to help anyone do anything. The Flaming Lips are all about working dilligently. Before their shows, you'll see all of the members helping the crew get everything set up. Wayne doesn't care for laziness one bit, thus he didn't care for Beck.

What, a guy can't make a non-critical comment on Fark?

Well, the fact that Wayne Coyne states that Arcade Fire treat their audience like shiat made me stop reading... I've seen them twice, and I've never experienced gigs like them. Best liveband I've ever seen - can't wait for their return to Denmark!

Not in the least,it's a jab at Beck for being a wentz.

The Frogs are/were great and btw/fyi their original name was 'The Stupid Frogs' and I know cuz I knew them when they were starting out - havent seen either one in ages thou', and can't remember the last time I heard them playing out.

Wayne is an asshole who seems to go out of his way to find something to complain about.

I have never worked with someone with a greater "I want to have my cake and eat it too" attitude.

I actually like The Flaming Lips music, but cannot listen to it after having to deal with Wayne on shows. It just makes me alternately angry and sad that he can treat people the way he does.

That's interesting because everything I have ever read about him says the opposite. I was amazed that after seeing their show he immediately went outside to start greeting people and signing souvenirs. And what people are saying about them working hard and setting up their own gear is definitely true. Frankly I wish he wouldn't mouth off so much about other bands though. Everyone's got a right to their own opinion, but we all know about what else everyone's got too.

Henry Holland 2009-03-05 05:55:04 PM
Nice reply by Win Butler. I especially liked the snark about Coyne's Edge and Timberlake tongue-bathing. This

I also fear that people will base their opinion of our band on the media quotes of a guy who doesn't even know us

is also a real possibility. Kind of weird that, if what Butler says is true, they've only played one gig together (Vegoose in 2005), that Coyne shoots his mouth off now.

I sometimes wonder about all the good press on him. I can only speak from personal experience. Sure they work hard and contribute to setting up their gear, but F**K YOU if your gear is in their way. Also, how a star treats their fans is not always indicative of the real person. It's easy to smile and sign autographs but not so easy to politely and professionally deal with the inherent frustrations of show production.

It's just depressing when someone who has the same goals as you treats you like shiat because they cannot handle their own responsibilities.

I've never been a huge Arcade Fire fan (nothing ever jumped out and bit me I suppose), but dammit Wayne, you're not hocking a new record or even a tour yet, why are you attention whoring in such a completely ass manner?

I saw the Arcade Fire at the Hillside Festival in Guelph a bunch of years ago. They were still playing their set at the end of the night and had to shut off the music due to noise regulations after a certain time.

They left the stage and brought accoustic instruments down to the crowd and walked around everywhere singing and playing.

i sure felt like i was treated like shiat...

Bingo. People's need to pretend they know these guys on a personal level is deeply sad, and says much more negative about the fan than the artist.

I know two people who have met Justin Timberlake. My co-worker says that he's really nice. She met him while he was filming Black Snake Moan. However, her son-in-law is Craig Brewer, so I would probably count her as an industry person in this instance.

My grandmother says he was a very sweet boy, but that was back when she was teaching him in Sunday school.

(Please no jokes about illicit unions between my grandmother and a pre-pubescent pop star. I don't think my brain can take it.)
