Ouch. I wish him well - I still watch The Monkees on DVD every once in awhile.

Mean, but funny.

And that's all it takes here.

Welcome to farkin' Deadwood!

Hey, hey, we're the Monkees...

Peter was always my favorite.

Get well soon!

FTFA: Doctors say preliminary findings from a biopsy show the cancer has not spread beyond the initial site and the 67-year old Tork says his prognosis is good. His surgery will be followed by radiation.

(*sigh*) God, this makes me feel old.

My sister had a pre cancer growth on her tongue and they removed it. they took a sorta triangular chunk from the side of her tongue about one cm by one cm. it has since

No, that was actually Mike Nesmith's mom. Right group, wrong Monkee.

Despite his portrayal on the show, Peter is generally considered
to be the smartest of the Monkees, and definitely the most
accomplished musician.

Nice to see he's still kicking.

While I always admired Peter's talent, I'd have to say that Mike was really the most proficient musician, judging from his post Monkee output.

Saw him live once in Texas - - a surprisingly good banjo player. And really good with audiences.

Although one could make an argument for Davy Jones, considering his positively dreamy appearance on The Brady Bunch.

Absolutely. No doubt Tork is an accomplished guitarist and excellent musician, but Mike Nesmith is just on another level. He wrote some amazing songs, performed both by the band and others (He wrote "different drum" made famous by Linda Ronstadt, among others). My favorite Monkee tune that he wrote is probably "What am I doing hangin' round?" but he's got quite a catalog. I know Frank Zappa and John Lennon both admired Nesmith very much. He's a talented dude.

Indeed. This one's a classic. Earned him a knighthood in England, if I'm not mistaken...

I must disagree: "Good Clean Fun" was his Monkee best.

Head needs a 40th anniversary rerelease, with better extras and commentaries and all that crap.

I know I'd pay for some good Head.

Oh, and I think Nesmith's unreleased songs, with the Nashville session players, during the Monkees era and his first 6 solo albums are his best stuff.

/First National Band FTW.

Now I've got Mike N's "Valleri" solo in my head.

Gotta agree. Nesmith all the way.

I'm partial to "You Just May be the One."

I'd go with probably "Carlisle Wheeling" or "Tapioca Tundra," but now I'm just being a nerd.

Anyhow, best wishes to Peter and a speedy recovery. He's always seemed like a good dude.

Awww, I love the Monkees so much! Mike was always my favorite, but Peter was just way to adorable (watched reruns on MTV growing up, they were a little before my time).

Hope Peter recovers nicely. I know he used to live with Stephen Stills back in the day, and the two of them may have even auditioned together for The Monkees. As other people have said, he is a very accomplished, classically trained musician, excelling at multiple instruments.

Headquarters is a truely wonderful album, I think I will go listen to it when I get home. Then maybe watch Head after the Rangers game :D

sad, that's terrible! I love(d) the Monkees in high school, Mike was by far the best but Peter was a close second - nothing but prayers for the best for his recovery.

Ah, I used to watch them after school, on Channel 50.

Peter was my favorite and my brothers would call him Peter Dork just to make me mad.

I remember buying the Headquarters album at Korvette's for like $9. And then when I got my iPod, it was among the first music I downloaded.

Does anyone turn off "Daydream Believer"?

/Auntie Grizelda, FTW
