FTA--The band plays a handful of other Jimi covers, including "All Along the Watchtower"

I saw him at some point. His lead guitarist played a soulful, tasteful, and altogether gorgeous rendition of Little Wing. Then Leon wanked all over it with a mediocre solo. Nice guy, I'm sure, but his band seems to be the real talent.

What's wrong with that?

Yes, the Hendrix version was a cover of Dylan, but if they're performing the Hendrix version of the song I'd say it's valid to say it's a Hendrix cover.

Was coming in to say that, but I see you got it covered. The two versions are very different.

Jimi was revolutionary because he was original.

Reproducing him, even if you do it 'better' means nothing.

I guess the Air Force base was already booked. Just as well, his haircut wouldn't pass military muster.

Leon has to make a living. He got left out of Jimi's estate. His sister has control over the Jimi Hendrix money making machine.

Oh jesus, no - he's embarrassingly bad. Leon doing 'Hey Joe' (new window)

Kind of random and nothing to do with the article...

I usually don't like cover bands, but the best one I've ever seen was a Hendrix cover band that played in a bar on Bourbon Street in New Orleans a few years back. From what I remember they had been playing around the tourist bars for years.

I haven't thought of them for years, but it was one of the coolest parts of the trip and they were awesome.

Does this sound familiar to anyone that might be a local? Are they still around?

Move over, Rover, and let Leon take over.

Have you ever been to Electric Leon Land ?

From what I understand Goldie Mcjohn's band isn't exactly a Steppenwolf coverband. They do other stuff. Goldie is the Toronto born keyboard player on Born To Be Wild by Steppenwolf.

Hell, Dylan even does the Hendrix version.

I always (and will continue to) refer back to the original songwriter/performer, when the term 'cover' is used. How could you not? Guess you have your reasons.

she's not his sister. she was adopted and is no blood to Jimi or Leon. it's a fuggin shame that Leon doesn't even get a small cut, Jimi would have wanted him to.

of course after watching that youtube video of him, Jimi probably would not have wanted him to do that.
