Can you get a phish shirt for a fin?

HappyHarryHardOn [TotalFark] 2009-03-04 05:42:54 PM
yep, because at every city they go to, the police got nothing better to do than chase after hippies selling tye-tie shirts

/stupid

Bill_Wick's_Friend 2009-03-04 05:50:57 PM
In the last few years of the life of the Grateful Dead they would send out a "please don't sell drugs, merchandise and food outside shows" flyer along with mail order tix.

I'm sure this crackdown by Phish will be just as effective as that was.

They've also effectively shut down any online repository of their live audience recordings (which they allow), instead making it hard to get phish shows besides from livephish.com or b&p's from the right people.

Now this stupid effort is just going to affect the band negatively, if enforced.

I thought they were all ex dead followers.
Since when did Phish followers start using soap?

I'm pretty sure he's referring to this incident: Link (new window)

As creepy as the guy comes off in photos, I actually believe him when he says he's not a pederast

It means you're just like me. In that regard, anyway.

Man, you made me laugh!

Years back I was talking to some fans about this and they twisted
themselves in knots trying to justify that pedophile taking pictures of the girl.

And re: the article.

So much for the hippie ethos.
Money changes everything and apparently Trey and the boys want more. Most likely to buy more opiates, narcotics and kiddie porn.

Note to self:
When soliciting 9-year-old girls for "art photos", first determine if the father is a Hell's Angel.

I remember I had five extra tickets for the Jerry Garcia Band's last show at Hampton. Ah, the things w/which could be traded for said tickets!!! Good times!!!

Not until you get a life!! :D

p.s., I think Phish's songwriting sucks, but when they do instrumental jams, they're amazing.

Not true. They didn't want to participate in the Live Music Archive, but neither do DMB/Dave Matthews or Widespread Panic. Hmmm...that's 3 of the 4 big players in the jamband scene opting out (the Dead is still there), there must be a reason. I looked on the LMA site and the letters they were sent by Phish and Panic go to dead links. That inspires confidence, doesn't it? /sarcasm

If you can't find Phish shows online, you're not trying very hard. In addition to the links jamesiscoolbeans provided, there's BT sites like etree that have almost every show that's in circulation available.

Can't wait to hear the shows from this weekend and am looking forward to the (rumored) West Coast swing.

Bootleg merch sellers do suck. The folks that Phish is taking action against aren't the die hard fans that are selling hemp necklaces in the parking lot to buy gas to get to the next show. They're taking issue with the folks who just show up and hawk cheap knock off tee shirts in the parking lot. Those people are professional bootleggers who just print up shirts and such for whatever band is in town. They don't care about the bands. They don't care about the fans. They're exploiting the name and fan base that the musicians built for themselves purely for profit.

And they don't explain that their product is an unauthorized product. So sometimes unsuspecting fans, especially inexperienced concert attendees, accidently buy the bootleg merch under the impression that they are supporting the band. They think that the band is getting money from the tee-shirt the guy is walking around selling while they wait in line to get into the venue, then don't buy the real thing that the band really does get paid for when they get inside.

Selling merch is a major revenue stream for musicians. It helps the musicians make money, and helps to keep ticket prices more reasonable. Especially with smaller touring acts, fans buying merch is SUPER important to the band's budget. Fans shouldn't knowingly buy from bootleggers and bootleggers should be stopped.

I'd much rather have the cops hassling bootleggers than hassling the folks that just came to the concert to party and have a good time. It's not like there's not already going to be a police presence at the show.

Yeah but half the time the bootlegged T-shirts in the lots are twice as cool as the regular merch. The band already got my money with the ticket price (which has done nothing but gone up, especially for this tour, $60 a night at Alpine) so if I want a t-shirt I like who cares if they're not getting their nickel, assuming it doesn't have a carbon copy of their logo on it (which is the trademarked item).
