Can someone just link to the epic "it's a UFO!!" vs. "no, it's a streetlight" thread and get it over with? Thanks.

Yeah, it couldn't possibly be a distorted image of the guys leg often caused when you look through water - quick call the news!

You know, I think its awesome that the streetlight thread has gotten as much play as it has.
That shiat was epic, and wherever the smitty is, I hope they realize how much joy their lunacy has brought to others.

I want to believe (in sharks)

Seriously - our Oz media would have us believe that we're in danger of shark attack even when we take a bath. Mind you the Poms aren't bad at scare mongering either.

I think we're still ahead of the sharks on the scoreboard

TheloniusP.Funksmith 2009-03-01 09:29:54 PM
you're all wrong. it was a leg shaped shark.

they're a very tame species and only attack when provoked.

Wardrobe_Malfunction 2009-03-01 09:30:04 PM
Never mind the shark, they're lucky they didn't get run over by all the ferries in Sydney Harbour.

Shedim 2009-03-01 09:30:48 PM
It's too far away and at a bad angle to be a leg.

Looks more like a stingray than a shark to me...

silentneep 2009-03-01 09:30:53 PM
That's can't be just any old leg. Must be some kinda tape leg.

It's a shark. You can tell by his dick and the song bubbles.

You_mean_Im_gonna_stay_this_color [TotalFark] 2009-03-01 09:36:19 PM
You can't see ANYTHING belonging to the people in the pic - legs, raft, arm etc, below the surface of the water because its too dark. But somehow you can see a shark even deeper than the sides of the florescent pink floaty.

People are dumb.

alaric3 2009-03-01 09:37:31 PM
Zoomed in it looks like the reflection of a beach but that would mean they were in a cove.
If it is a shark it would be a very small one and unlikely to try biting into a larger target. (Maybe fingers or an arm.)

I guess it's someone who works for a year before going to college, for example.

Sgygus: Did anyone mention it might be the guy's leg yet?

The guys leg is obvious uts dlightly above the illusion, but is also obviously below water, the illusion appears to be a reflection on top of the water., but in order for that to be a shark he would have to be practically sitting on it.

The human mind is very good at seeing patterns. This is an essential facet of our vision system, as it helps us pick out important information from a background with a lot of stuff going on - say in a forest or jungle. However, our brain is so good at it that people have a tendency to see patterns even when none exist.

It's a reflection/the color of the water itself. That's it. nothing special at all. If you notice, near the bottom of teh photo in the middle you'll see another, thinner, area with the same color which is reflecting/refracting in a similar way and so the camera is picking up the same color.
