Ah, the return of the frat boy reggae rockers. Now white boys everywhere can rise up against Babylon! That is if they can manage to pick themselves off the floor from where they passed out in their own vomit and piss.

Took advice from Drowning Pool, did they?

I didn't care too much for them (Sublime) doing videos after Brad died, if only because it looked like they were squeezing money from his corpse instead of honoring him. I mean, I can see that they could've used the money because Brad became a dad just before he died, but it just set my teeth on edge.

/Am I looking too much into that?

Well, good luck to 'em. They deserve another shot after that idiot killed himself. "Hey, I've got an idea. I'm going do heroin for one calendar year to bolster my creativity, and then I'll stop."

Moron.

He should have sought his higher self in something spiritual, maybe a religion, with occult overtones. Hmmm...which one?

/I think I'm all Sublime'd out. Between playing their self titled CD nonstop for a whole summer and Krock overplaying all of their songs, I think I'm done.

This is terribly stupid. The man wrote all of the songs and was the singer. It's even more outrageous than the Misfits without Danzig, Queen without Mercury and The Dead Kennedys without Biafra. It'd be like Nirvana reuniting without Cobain. Terrible idea.

Oh, and does anyone have sauce on the girl in the banner at the top of the page on the link? She's amazing looking.

Sublime is different. There are actually tribute bands *touring* on old Sublime songs. For some reason there's a lot of potential there to keep it going. It's been over 13 years and people are still spinning the self titled Sublime album as if it came out last summer.

So they should start a new band and write new songs. Sublime was Nowell's baby. The thought just makes me feel so... dirty.

liberate1 2009-03-01 10:59:19 PM
those guys should just get a new name along with a new singer. play the old stuff in concert and promote the fact that they are who they are and the legacy. but the band named sublime should remain deceased.

/ funny comment i read somewhere else: 'the only way to reunite sublime is with two bullets'

I like this Rome guy. He's no Brad, but they could have done a lot worse. It's cool to see them playing again, anyway, and I think Brad would approve. Mr. Nowell never struck me as the type who would get pissed off about this, and so I won't either.

My experience with him was that he was a cool dude. I really got into them when I was 12 (1994) and sent them a fan letter and some really shiatty writing of mine (a thousand facepalms). He handwrote me back a response and gave me a phone number to call him and talk about music or whatever. It was a pretty big deal for me at the time.

That's very cool. I'm not even that big of a sublime fan, but it's so rare that artists are that nice with their fans.

this is the band immediately after the self-titled album got big.

I've never understood the amount of love the band had. Some of their stuff is really good, some awful.

There aren't any beaches or doobies (decent ones, anyway) in most of the country. That's my theory.

Sherjo311: good fresh beach tunes with a good mixture of funk, reggae and classic rock. always goes well with a doobie.

this is why. God knows I'm a Spacemen 3,Velvet Underground, etc fan so I have no room to talk, but bands whose appeal seems to center around "LOL, the song's about WEED" are by and large pretty crap and don't really have much appeal otherwise. (see also: Cypress Hill, Kottonmouth Kings, etc)

By and large, i like Sublime, it's their more punk-influenced stuff that annoys me.

I see this as a very bad idea.

Now, I like Sublime. I like Long Beach Dub All-Stars.

But seriously, Brad Nowell was the heart and soul of the band. He's been dead for years. Let it go, guys. Or kick LBDAS back into gear. But leave the Sublime name alone.

zappawizard 2009-03-02 01:39:35 AM
I'm sure Brad was a super guy, and I'm sure his band mates and family were devastated, but his last act was to leave his child with no parent and his band mates stranded. If you were in my band and you died of an overdose, I'd mourn you, then I'd replace you by the end of the month. No matter how important you were. But maybe that's just me, I've done my share of drugs, but I got no sympathy for junkies, I guess the punishment is inherent in the act.

/thinks their music sucks, sorry

For that, the rest of them should be killed too. Seriously, whiteboy reggae is the most annoying genre of music ever.

Even including emo.

Hmm, a couple things must be said. This could be awesome, or meh, but surely won't suck. True, Brad wrote pretty much everything, but Wilson "made" their sound more than Brad did, I think. I mean, the guitar parts in and of themselves are not exactly complicated- any fool can skank but their songs are carried mostly by the bassline. You know that's what they'll be playing, is old stuff. So I, for one, will definitely go. I've seen Sublime trib bands and they generally bring way too much punk rock while failing to deliver the reggae flavor.

And to all you folks in here to say how much they suck, I know, I know, you gotta be contrary, 'cause that's just so cool or metal or whatever. I had the same attitude when I myself was a foolish teenager full of piss, vinegar, and idiocy. But ya know, every once in a while something becomes popular because it actually IS good. So go rip on Lil Weezie or nickelback or something that DOES suck.

Oh, dude - I AM ripping on stuff that sucks. Whiteboy reggae is lame. Whiteboys who live their lives by some lameass pot-soaked credo because they think they are getting closer to Jah or Big Bob - well, they are just deluded morons in my eyes. You are not, and will not, ever be going to Babylon.

Um, "Babylon" isn't a goal or destination. "Babylon" is "The Man." It's the government, it's the baldheads, it's evil and corrupt authority. In other words, Rastafarians want to topple Babylon, not go there.

What do you define as whiteboy reggae, by the way? A lot of groups might fit into that description. The Clash and the Police, for example.

I loaded the original one on my ipod after getting tired of what was already on there. The GF never heard too much of their music and liked it. The kids like it all. hell, my mom likes it.

There are a bunch of tribute bands playing their stuff. With a good singer they could do the same and probably better.

I feel like this is the classic reaction to someone making fun of your band.

Destructive Hobo
Tree Of The Eater
Wound Riddance
Grasping Mortal
Proto Sand

*totally made up names

I like Sublime still. It reminds me of summers back when I was 14 or so. Every time the weather starts getting warm I dig out my Sublime and 311 cds.

They are just seasonal bands. I don't know why, but those bands are summer to me in some strange way.

Not the most over-rated by a long shot.

Just over.

Sorry, Bud, Eric... you know this to be true.

You can feed on Bradley's soul the rest of your life or you can create something new & original that belongs to only you. Your call.
