I would pay any amount of money to see this.

I don't intend on sounding like a tree-hugging hippie, but Niagra Falls is absolutely awe-inspiring and amazing.

Niagara.

People go over the Falls often, with or without boats. Only two people have ever survived.

The author of the article needs to do more research. He does not currently hold the world record at a measly 65'. The highest waterfall I know someone dropping off of is 105', and I'm not even sure if that is the world record.

They pull a body out, on average, 1 per day. Parks Niagara workers have a grim job. They just get used to people parking their cars, walking around a bit, then jumping over the fence. It's craziness. the spring thaw is an especially fun time down river. The whirlpool helps to keep the mess contained.

It worked out quite well for this chap...

October 1st 1995
Robert Overcracker rides a jetski over the brink of the Horseshoe Falls to help promote awareness for the homeless. His parachute did not open and Robert ended up promoting better parachutes. He plunged to his death and his body was never recovered. An Egyptian tourist captured this amazing image.

Uh, sorry, the world record for a waterfall kayak jump is already north of 105 feet, and contrary to this article he does not hold it.

So, wake me up if he makes Niagra.

I came in here to mention Tao and also mention that he used a throw rope to measure the waterfall he did (not entirely accurate). Not to say that it didn't take balls of steel to do either fall, though.

Jesse Sharp approves of these shenanigans. This guy was a fixture on the Ocoee back in the late 80s, until he did the Falls. I remember when he died, somebody said "Well, he died doing what he loved.", to which I replied, "What? Drowning?". I was not popular for that remark.

wxgeek: Huh. He might be crazy enough to pull this off.

Crazy enough and plenty more. I went to [english equivalent of] high school with this guy and he had balls of steel back then and they've only grown bigger. Some of his stunts before the age of 18 included

- kayaking around Scotland and Wales in boats designed for kiddy pools because doing it in real kayaks would be too easy.

- jumping out of a second floor window and waving to the maths teacher as he plunged past his classroom "because he was bored"

- creating a sport-climbing wall in the gym by knocking out mortar between some of the bricks. The gym teacher was kinda pissed when he found out about that one.

- sleeping overnight in ditches as practice "in case he ever had to do it for real"

- learning full-contact karate by insisting on always fighting the club champion because it was the fastest way to learn

Oh, and check this list (new window) of some of his records, first descents, etc.

So carping that he doesn't currently hold the vertical descent record may help some of you unshrivel your balls, but trust me on this: Shaun is the most hardcore psycho balls of brass badass you have met outside of Special Forces.

Yup, I agree, bullshiat. According to this there are 20-25 suicides at Niagara in a year.

"You'd need to build in an aerofoil system so you can actually fly through the air, and from that sort of height - 160ft - you'd need it, trust me. If you get caught in the towback, you drown. That's it. But yeah, it's possible."

Somebody already did it. Just take it off the inflatable and stick it on your kayak and you can go off Angel Falls, no problem. (new window)

I'm not convinced being able to clear the bottom is a good idea. The saving grace of running a big waterfall is that you can pencil into frothy, oxygenated water with little surface tension or buoyancy. If he's really clearing the bottom of the fall by a lot, he's gonna hit harder water. The record at 108 feet was alreay rough on the guys who did it. I think there was a broken hand involved.

czetie: but trust me on this: Shaun is the most hardcore psycho balls of brass badass you have met outside of Special Forces.

I film drops over his record at least once a year, tough guy, sure, but still a lil baby in the world of kayak drops, Saddly he is so foolish that he will never get to reclaim his record since he is intending on kiling himself on a waterfall that is deadly not due to height but to hydrodynamics(hence his intent to shoot past the standard arc and attempt to not hit the rocks at the bottom)...
