And you know what sucks?

Gaspar Corona-Jiminez, 38, was stabbed in the chest, lower back and hands. Nery Velasquez, 24, suffered knife wounds to his arm, and Andres Filemon, 22, was cut on his chest and hand, the sheriff's report said.

Corona-Jiminez was flown by helicopter to Tampa General Hospital, and the two other men were taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital. None had life-threatening injuries.

I'm sure these guys don't have insurance to pay for the helicopter ride, etc. Waaaay after we hear about the story they'll still be stuck with this $20,000 bill or whatever it is.

That may be true, but we don't know how close these people are. I've been to plenty of parties where I felt like most of the people there had a lot less class than I do, but it doesn't mean I won't have a beer with them. Also, trailer parks and poor neighborhoods in general have a lot more mingling than middle-class suburbia. It's not uncommon to be hanging out in the front yard and be joined by some strangers from down the road.

That whooshing sound you hear was demonstrated by the illustration above.

Would you go on a beer run for someone that would stab you if you brought them Natural Light instead of Natural Ice? Probably not. If you would, please stab yourself in the neck with the nearest available sharp object and save us all the trouble off your offspring.

My point was that all people in the article were idiots. They had to have known the person doing the stabbing gets crazy when he's drunk, and they do not deserve sympathy because of this.

How did you ever make it out of their trailer park with your lack of reading comprehension? This seems like a pretty one-sided and unexpected knife fight for them to "get into." Only naive fools think we don't have universal health care. If these guys can't pay their bills, they'll either do the honorable thing and declare bankruptcy (at which point, if they are somewhat financially stable, a typical judge will cancel the debt), or they will do the dishonorabe thing (as these guys will probably do) and ignore it.

Either way the hospital isn't getting the money from them, so it'll be jacking up health care costs on everyone else and/or getting government subsidies.

I didn't say it was a good system.

Whatever, dude. I don't know how many Mexicans they have in Idaho, but I doubt you have much first-hand experience with a trailer park full of them. Where I'm from (60% Hispanic population) you don't have the luxury of choosing who you associate with all the time. If Juan over in 66A is a tough guy that's just a personality quirk. It doesn't mean you don't grill with him and talk about football, and in a neighborhood full of tough-guy macho drunks, that's not really a warning sign before a stabbing, if there is such a thing.

Ding Dong Seven 2009-03-01 03:41:27 AM
You know, this whole "something, something, something? That's a stabbin'"-thing doesn't really work anymore, does it?

I mean, it's like something lower than a knock-knock joke. A knock-knock joke is annoying, but at least there's some sort of a twist involved - you don't know what's coming, so you try to be positive about life, and try to keep your hopes up - maybe something funny will follow? The "That's a stabbin'" deal is more like a Borat-sky "... -NOT!"-joke. We already know what's coming.

Someone did something that was not violent, and then someone else did something, that was violent. The End.

I agree, and on principle I don't want to pay for someone else's health care either. Realistically however, this guy making trailer park wages is not going to be able to pay a $20,000 (and I think that's a low end estimate) bill even if he wanted to. Something has to be done to make emergency services affordable. The current system is broken.

REDARMYVODKA- and florida earns its tag yet again.

The only reason this gets a 'Florida' tag is because there's no 'wet back' tag. FTFA- This 'occurred in a mobile home at Six L's Farm'. This isn't a trailer park, its most likely a migrant farm labor camp. Trust me- floridians don't even want these folks around.

I understand what you're saying, but I'm sorry, you're the one who seems naive here.

This incident could have happened as you seem to believe it has (the guy saw what kind of beer they got, saw the kind of beer they got, and then picked up a knife and started stabbing with no other provocation). That could have happened, but most likely it did not. That just isn't a common way for crime to pan out.

When people stab acquaintances it's usually the result of an escalating argument. If the other guys participated in an argument where it escalated a drunk guy to stabbiness, I think it's ok to assume they're douchebags.

You seem to take it for granted this was a random act of violence. Other people are taking it for granted that this was a bunch of drunk douchebag who got into a hostile argument and one of them got stabby. We don't know who's right, but I do know who's more likely to be right, and it's not you.

In a poor area filled with tough-guys that were raised by tough-guys, you don't think much of the fact that so-and-so gets drunk and angry sometimes (assuming they had this knowledge). Anyway, this is a sort of silly thing to argue about at 3 AM. Agree to disagree, I guess. I have to go, my wife called crying and said she just saw someone get killed by a drunk driver. :(
