So is they're entire album like this or is this just a one-off?
Haven't listened to radiohead since the 90's but would buy this album in a heartbeat if it was all jazz-fusion like this song.

/loves me some Koop^ and Sofa Surfers^

Never would have guessed how cool that would be.

This is a one off mash up. Pretty damn cool too.

And, yeah Koop rocks. I haven't heard Sofa Surfers, so I will check them out. Have you heard the Cinematic Orchestra? They're one of the greatest in this style, imho.

Needs a little Mission Impossible. Then we can dance.

I hear you're mad about Bruuu-beck (Brubeck!)

Even though this is a fan made mash up, you still might like some of their actual studio recordings that have a jazz fusion kind of feel to them.

Check out:

Life in a Glass House (not an official video)

and

The National Anthem (also not an official video)

that was great

Wow. Very well done.

I love asymmetrical time.

Great mashup!

rcain: While that mashup was definitely cool, I think you'd be disappointed by the rest of the Radiohead album. I was.

P.S. That Koop song/video you posted is great.

Tsunami Ditka 2009-03-01 02:31:25 PM

I had tremendously low expectations for this. Expectations were exceeded, but not by much.

I think its a classic, but I'm also a huge fan of the band.

That worked really well.

WhyteRaven74 [TotalFark] 2009-03-01 04:42:10 PM
That is all sorts of fun. Never would think those two songs to mesh so well.

Lando Lincoln [TotalFark] 2009-03-01 05:32:58 PM
Boy, did that suck. I like Radiohead, and I like Dave Brubeck, that that was a horrific train-wreck of two songs.

dmax 2009-03-01 07:49:00 PM
Paul Desmond, not Brubeck, wrote the tune.

berniex [TotalFark] 2009-03-01 09:28:43 PM
Not really much of a mashup. Overlaid snippets of Paul Desmond on the Radiohead song, that's about it.

flaminglip: This prompted me to bust out my Take Five LP and give it a spin.

I don't know why I don't listen to this more often. It friggin rules. Not only is the musicianship incredible, but whoever engineered this album was a genius.

I especially get a kick out of the notes on the back of the cover-

"This Columbia High Fidelity recording is scientifically designed to play with the highest quality of reproduction on the phonograph of your choice, new or old. If you are the owner of a new stereophonic system, this record will play with even more brilliant true to life fidelity. In short, you can purchase this record with no fear of its becoming obsolete."

Never a truer statement spoken.

what he said...

LP's are still going strong and gaining market share again. I still buy new releases on LP regularly. usually after I "acquire" the digital version and have given it a round on the ol' iPod. If an album is "LP purchase worthy" (see "sponge worthy" from Seinfeld)I'll track it down

/goes to find my Take Five LP

Didn't really work for me, but I appreciate the effort. They didn't match up harmonically very well.

Are you kidding? The mostly pentatonic melody of the sax fit perfectly well under the 15 step chords, because they are i IV v, triads of the dorian mode. I thought the occasional non chord tone was well-placed, and I thought in general the changing harmony added an interesting twist to the Take Five solo which is so monochordal.

verbal711 2009-03-02 09:25:31 AM
Nope, didn't work for me either. The muddy electronic sound throws off the graceful sax.

GibbyTheMole 2009-03-02 09:43:43 AM
That was sorta intriguing. Of course, I really like Radiohead quite a lot, and the Brubeck Quartet is one of my all-time favorite jazz ensembles, so that might've stacked the deck.

I've got that Brubeck LP (among many many others) on both vinyl & CD, and while the CD sounds good, I gotta say when you spin the old original 6-eye vinyl, you can really hear stuff. You hear the characteristics of the room, which sounds just huge on the LP. All the dynamics and details are just more there. It's an awesome experience. Those old Columbia 6-eye jazz LPs were great.

Ace!

MikoSquiz 2009-03-02 09:08:07 PM
That's pretty much perfect. 15 Step's one of my least favourite Radiohead tracks, but stick a little jazz on there and mm-mm-mm.
