It's not everyday you can say you were injured by a humpback whale's fin

and according to the details of the story, she can't say that that's what happened to her on that day.

she's on a "whale-watching and research vessel", she should be grateful for such a close encounter.

/and learn to hold on better

It's not everyday you'd want to explain how it happened.

Well you can certainly say it. May not be true, but still...

It's not everyday you can say you were so alarmed to see a whale on a whale-watching trip that you fell down and hurt yourself.

berylman 2009-03-01 06:20:02 AM
Unless you are held captive in the secret humpback whale prisons, where everyday your flesh is rendered senseless by repeated slapping of the dorsal fin.

Don't be so presumptuous subby, there are people in a lot of pain on a daily basis due to humpbacks.

I guess she should have... watched out... for that whale.

But "Woman falls down when boat she is in gets hit by Whale" doesn't have the same alarmist sound. How are we going to convince people that whale fins are dangerous, seeing as they're out there in the ocean, being flung around with abandon by their huge whale owners with no regard for the children!!?

/Whales are pretty neat, actually
//notice correct use of they're/there/their

I bet the whale laughed and laughed at that score.

I guess the Cape Cod whales are more polite, they just snuggle up against the boat and pose for you.

Not in a million years. Also, I was under the impression that Bremerton women were humpbacked whales.

Well, you certainly don't admit it to your friends.

A little boy died a few years ago when this happened to him.

I wish they would have named the vessel, it might be run by a certain whale watch operator who very vocally opposes the most technologically advanced ferry boat in Hawaii on grounds that its going to hit whales. Problem is, this dude has hit many whales, and the ferry he hates has hit none.

Oh, did his family decide to adopt the First Whale? I coulda sworn they were going for a puppy.

But yeah, guys, I don't think she was shocked (well, not figuratively, she certainly was in the literal sense), nor is she likely to sue. Someone who goes out whale-watching in a boat small enough for a whale to accidentally displace is hardcore enough that they must have a sense of humor of some kind. She's probably kicking herself a bit for not grabbing on to something, though.

//Went whale-watching in a kayak once. It's a fast way to learn that you're not a kayaker, they can turn you upside-down by passing like 20 meters away.
