I have some good memories of being a little boy at my grandparents' house listening to Paul Harvey on their AM radio. What a story teller.

This is Paul Harvey. Good day!

Truly a sad day for America. Paul Harvey made my day, listening to the news, and the rest of the story.

You, sir, were the classiest of the classy. The noblest of the noble. The most honorable of the most honorable, and you shall be deeply missed.

A sad day, indeed. Nobody could tell a story like Harvey.

GWShenlong05 [TotalFark] 2009-02-28 08:42:57 PM
I was just thinking about that Paul Harvey today. But not in a good way.

I remember in either late 2002 or early 2003, he was doing his one of those "rest of the story" stories on Saddam Hussein. He closed off the segment with something along the lines of "And he thought he could destroy America's resolve by knocking down the twin towers."

From early 2007 onwards, I remember every conservative commentator backpedaling from their involvement with stoking the fire leading up to the war in Iraq. But I will never forget Harvey's commentary that day, beacause it was the leading edge on the media meme that Saddam had anything to do with 9/11. It was so obvious and disjointed with all of the information the media had given on 9/11, that I remember driving in the car and saying "What the f*ck? What the f*ck??" aloud when I heard it.

This is truly the end of an era in radio. RIP.

globalwarmingpraiser [TotalFark] 2009-02-28 08:43:43 PM
I am sure someone will come in here and rip on this principled broadcaster, who provided news and entertainment for many years.

RIP Mr. Harvey.

Good night, Mr. Harvey.

I knew he wouldn't last long once his wife died.

They never do.

Hiro Nakamura: I have some good memories of being a little boy at my grandparents' house listening to Paul Harvey on their AM radio. What a story teller.

Same here.

That guy seemed to be on 12 hours a day.

ohdoublereally [TotalFark] 2009-02-28 08:46:09 PM
Gladys McGilicutty of Livingston Alabama writes, Dear Paul Harvey, I've been listening to your show for quite some time, and I'm very sorry to hear you're dead. Thank you for telling the rest of the story, and I love my boaz radio.

He never did come back full-time after she passed last year. I remember how devastated he sounded when he spoke of it.

Glad I happened to catch his "page 2" the other day... didn't know it'd be one of his last.

What a genuine guy... just a nice midwestern man on the radio who's like a pleasant version of Grampa.

Interesting comment from GWShenlong05. I haven't heard Harvey in years, since well before 9/11; I was unaware of any positions he'd taken. He was against the first Gulf War if I recall.

I always thought of him as sort of a Bircher and nativist, who'd be at home in the pre-WW2 Republicans of the Midwest.

Exodus2001 2009-02-28 08:49:43 PM
Rush Limbaugh is all the radio I would never need. We all need a radio leader like Mr. Limbaugh to be honest and truthful to the American people and to the world.

Harvey was clearly just a story teller of liberal bias.

Gulper Eel [TotalFark] 2009-02-28 08:49:46 PM
I'm surprised nobody in corporate radio laid him off to make their first-quarter numbers.

RIP, Paul.

He hasnt even been in the market for the past five years and we are a top 30, too.

I remember him doing Santa Claus leaving the North Pole during the blizzard in the mid-west in '65 and his announcement on Walt Disney dying...
