I've always hated that stuff. I can't imagine why people would want to eat orange peel in any form.

oldebayer [TotalFark] 2009-02-28 07:27:27 PM
I just bought a nice jar of it at Tuesday Morning. The real thing, too, not the American swill.

The orange peel has to be packed in sea water ftw.

Yes, you have to get the good stuff. Life is too short for cheap marmalade.

Bucky Katt [TotalFark] 2009-02-28 07:35:16 PM
I should also note that since this is the Daily Fail marmalade sales in Britain are probably really going up.

robmilmel [TotalFark] 2009-02-28 07:38:35 PM
It's probably due to change in taste (consumer taste). Marmalade is popular with a somewhat older set who didn't have soda on tap everywhere, and sweets were a treat, not a staple. It takes some sophistication of palate to appreciate sweet/bitter.

/Loves me some Bonne Maman marmalade

Marmalade on whole wheat toast with a cup of coffee = good breakfast.

Is the Cajun marmalade served at the Border Cafe restaurants around Boston anything like the allegedly delicious British stuff?

Oh please--whether it's fancy-shmancy marmalade or the cheap stuff, it's all good.

Nothing better than a peanut butter and orange marmalade sandwich. Beats grape jelly by a longshot.

More for me, then. The rest of you can eat Wonder bread covered in Welch Grape Jelly and topped with syrup and brown sugar to get it sweet enough for you.

marmalade sucks, born in the 50s.

lordargent 2009-02-28 09:28:23 PM
I like it, but I hardly have a chance to eat breakfast, and wouldn't eat it every day.

In short, it spoils too fast for me to bother stocking it.

D-Sizzle 2009-02-28 09:29:37 PM
I didn't even know what marmalade was until i read this.

Marmalade sucks, but other than that every single food I've eaten with orange peel has been delicious.

I made a vanilla fudge with an orange peel flavoring for christmas this year, it was farking awesome.

When I first traveled overseas, I was introduced to the wonders of orange marmalade and ginger spread from Tiptree. Omigod good.

WTF is marmalade? Isn't it a song?

What sort of numpty doesn't like marmalade?

Bastards.

Smackledorfer 2009-02-28 09:32:37 PM
After reading the thread, I'll admit I only tried marmalade once, and it was probably a crappy american brand. Seeing it described as somewhat bitter makes me want to try the real thing. I just remember it as basically a poor consistency jam made of oranges.

"It's news that will leave Paddington Bear choking on his sandwiches"

... in related news Pedo Bear is still enjoying his sandwiches very much

bmihura 2009-02-28 09:35:26 PM
Doesn't marmalade have sugar added? Is that not a processed food?

plumbicon 2009-02-28 09:35:42 PM

I heard he was found dead in Durango, Mexico, a victim of the recent upswing in drug-related violence. Maybe that's just wishful thinking.

My dad loves marmalade. I can't get into the stuff. I'm not much of an orange person in general, though.

Subby sounds bitter.

GWSuperfan 2009-02-28 09:41:05 PM
As someone who frequently goes out for brunch on Sundays, I'll say this is accurate in Southern CA. The marmalade/jelly/preserves at most establishments usually seems to have been raided for grape and strawberry, with 90% of what's left being marmalade.

/not complaining

this! a good marmalade in the morning on toast is a feast. of course, most limeys are far too busy gumming bubble and squeek with pulpy teeth after having slathered vegemite all over their banger-soaked crumpets to bother with anything as sophisticated as marmalade.

Shadow Blasko 2009-02-28 09:43:36 PM
Fine, thats more for those of us who appreciate it then!

Rozinante 2009-02-28 09:44:48 PM
If you were meant to eat the peel, it would be inside the orange.

Marmalade is best when slathered on chicken/pork ribs, grilled to perfection & enjoyed with cooooldddd beer. Only.

No, it's just one more way that your Baby Boomer parents failed you.

Fail brit pop culture is fail. We dont have vegemite here. Thats for the aussies. We have Marmite. Crumpets is good to go tough (mmm crumpets, yes they can be found in any shop and they are a superior cake indeed.)
