In HD? Just what part of this video has high definition?

And-1 2009-02-28 05:00:46 PM
submitter: HD

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

HD? Really? Link not safe for epileptics...

I was going to post in this thread to question the "HD" label on this here video, but I see that necessary task has already been accomplished.

Aside from the obviously bullshiat claim of HD, that was a cool vid. That song is great, and sounds even better live.

good song, but echoplex is the gem of the slip that every nin fan should see live

Maybe if you all had clicked on the HQ button at the bottom of the video you'd have found it.

Fail.

TomServo0 2009-02-28 08:09:09 PM
HQ is very different from HD, onlyadistraction. Especially in YouTubeLand, where HQ lets you "watch in normal quality."

Yeah that video doesn't look like it was shot on an HD camera, unless it was a low end consumer "HD" product. The camera was obviously either tiny or held by an amateur due to the shakiness. I say smaller camera because thats the kind of shake you usually get from a smaller cam. I'm sure the flimmakers get annoyed that you actually have to click "watch in HD" when they upload their videos uncompressed or in H.264

The songs still awesome.

HD shot on HVX (new window)

Someone already pointed out that it says "watch in high quality" not "watch in HD". I even gave an example of a video that says "watch in HD", even though it's not a NIN vid.

Mirrorz 2009-02-28 09:13:32 PM
The initials/acronym "HD" is just assumed and widely accepted to be "high definition." In theory it could just mean "higher definition" than the default youtube compression which makes old Realplayer video look nice.

Hmm I'm not a big NIN fan but it puts a smile on my face when ever I hear a band give a great live performance.

So what? HD != HQ, and YouTube is NEVER HD. Ergo, submitter (and anyone else that thinks YouTube is HD) is a dumbarse.

Your point?

I beg to differ. There are plenty of videos on YouTube that are available in 720p HD. I've made some of them, even.

Here's an example.

PumpUpDaFark 2009-03-01 10:26:24 AM
It's not in HD...I can tell by the pixels.

The video in question was not the official NIN upload, if you go here (new window) you will see the official video that you can indeed click "watch in HD" on.

YouTube is about as HD as an Atari 2600.

Ummm... Ever hear of the RED ONE (4K actually) or the Panasonic HVX200 (shot a commercial on that one). They make them pretty small now. Not all HD cams are Panasonic Genesis. The quality detail is all based in the lens.
Plus the camera most likely had a 50mm lens or higher attached, hence the shake and depth-of-field. Want less shake, use a wider lens, not so much a smaller camera. Plus Trent wouldn't even allow anything less than an HD cam, he's very picky.

/work at a major HD network. You'd be surprised by the cameras they use on our programs

//and yes, the song is awesome
