I think buffets should weigh people when they come in, then weigh them on the way out, and charge a price per quarter pound gained. There would also be weigh-ins and weigh-outs at the bathrooms, so nobody could drop ballast before leaving. It would revolutionize the industry, and make for some grand entertainment as well.

Something smells fishy about raising prices while eating at a sushi bar.

Did anyone read the article? It was a misleading sign. Businesses do it all the time. Don't like it? Do go back. If you were smart enough to see what was going on before you went in, you wouldn't have a problem. I hope the dumbass tag is for the people who complained.

The article seems to indicate that it wasn't a normal price change for the time of day - they posted new prices over the sign while people were already eating and didn't even inform customers who asked. I didn't realize customers were supposed to be psychic.

Or age of the person. I've seen 8 year olds pile plate after plate up from the buffet and waste 80% of it, and they get charged half-price or less. I don't tend to stuff myself at buffets because I have something or the other wrong with my entrails. Pressure/pain below the left ribcage. Anyway, I eat like a bird at buffets unless they've got good ice cream. I get charged full price. And the old people with me...10% less for managing to live to 55? WTF?

I've seen plenty of shenanigans in the restaurant industry - particularly in tourist areas where the owners know the business is one-time-only and not repeat customers.
Some friends and I once went into a bar for there "$4.00 margaritas", and the table ordered plenty. Got the bill for a whole bunch of $8 drinks. The huh? Went outside before saying anything just to be sure I'd read the sign right. $4 margaritas. I complained, and the waitress said "oh but you guys ordered *strawberry* margaritas. It wasn't as if the sign had advertised well drinks and we made them calls. The sign just said margaritas, not a particular flavor.
I don't complain a whole lot, but a double tab was a bit much.
we griped...and...they capitulated. Charged us for our $4 drinks. We left happy, though a bit saddened. They were good drinks, but we won't be back. Not going to see what they pull next.

They are lucky this wasn't in America. A few patrons would have said "Okay, raise the price. I'm going back for more."
The restaurant would have had no inventory left. Nothing. Napkins would have been consumed out of spite.

I prefer the buffets that charge you before you eat, and will add things to the bill should you order more.
That said, I figure you're paying ten bucks for food that would cost your lazy ass three bucks a head to prepare yourself, you'd better have four plates worth. If you can't eat that much, don't go. (Unless you're with a large group where no two people are going to agree on one place, then you're paying for convenience.)

I have never had a problem with Buffets in Texas, mind you around here alot of places have a 90% mexican clientel. Its strange because the spice of choice suddenly becomes Jalepenos (cheap, mex approved).
A good lunch buffet in most places will run $6-8 bucks per person, but a couple of them run $10-12 with a price that changes every few hours, hell one of em even makes you pay up front for every person. Yea that ones a madhouse, 98% mexican clientel.

Pfffft...not really. The way Hubby eats, he doesn't need fiber! Those szechuan peppers and hot sauce (with the chicken on the bottle) go right through him!
And then he biatches at me because I want Krispy Kreme three hours later. That's where I get MY fiber, or at least that's what I tell myself.

Actually, I think it would be a big money-booster for a buffet with good selection. Think of it: $7.95 for two trips to the buffet (which covers a salad and a main course), $4.95 for each trip thereafter. We would have to work out what a "trip" was, and probably have buffet monitors, but it would be profitable.

Birds eat, like half their body weight in food every day. So if you 'eat like a bird' and weigh 180, that means you eat 90 pounds of food every day.

We have a pretty decent Chinese buffet in town. They have a better than average variety, lots of seafood and crab legs at night. People watching is half of going there. There is always at least one fat guy in sweats trying to put the entire steam tray of crab legs on his plate. My favorite was the ignorant trailer trash that asked the very obviously asian guy working the mongolian grill if he was a Mexican illegal alien.

Just about every buffet I've ever been to had you pay first ... then I read TFA ... Chinese ... makes sense now.
I had a buddy once that would be harassed by the local Chinese owner because he attacked buffet by taking a huge plate of one thing, then if he didn't like it, just setting it aside. So, I guess, the owner had a point.

My GF used to work at Crimson Crustacean, and they have a wonderful season called endlees shrimp sensation (or whateverr)
One gentleman, orded the shrimp (16 oz to start, comes w 2 oz drawn butter) every additional order of shrimp is 8oz w 2 oz butter. He Ordered 31 additional shrimp plates with an extra butter per order. And ate them all. 16.5 lbs shrimp. 4lbs butter.

"The Cozy" up near Camp David charged a coworker for 2 buffets.
The logic? The price changed from lunch $ to Dinner $ while he was eating, therefore his second trip was a new meal.
