yeah. Whatever. These will be amended to "the ban", too.. so don't get your hopes up, smokers.

So if it's only nicotine, is there a high cancer risk?

Pyr0 2009-02-28 01:12:13 PM
FTFA: Nicotine is highly addictive and causes the release of the "feel good" chemical dopamine when it goes to the brain. It also increases heart rate and blood pressure and restricts blood to the heart muscle.

That's totally crazy it's awesome. Atomized nicotine in propylene glycol that looks like smoke. You know those are gonna fly off the shelves. Why burn sawdust, roach droppings and other adulterants (excuse me, "flavor additives") to get your fix when you can just get sweet sweet nicotine all by itself?

Whatthefark 2009-02-28 01:13:28 PM
The smoke, tar and chemicals are what cause cancer subby. These contain nothing more than nicotine and a food safe delivery agent.

How exactly will they cause cancer?

Ashtrey 2009-02-28 01:13:32 PM
Let's hurry up and ban them before people start enjoying themselves without bothering others!

After all, nicotine is a dangerous stimulant that should not be abused. Now where is my coffee?

beanx [TotalFark] 2009-02-28 01:14:07 PM
cuz for some bizarre reason, you'll miss the taste of an actual smoke. As bizarre as that sounds.

/has the electronic smokey treat, hasn't quite gone full-throttle with it as of yet.

Nice. Piss off the tobacco companies. This guy's going to be at the bottom of the ocean next to the water powered car guy.

Wish I had the "old news is exciting!" picture... Guess it's relevant again because some radio station in Chicago just found out about them. Or whatever.

Would still smoke regular cigs if I cared to anymore.

I'm for clean air laws, but if you're not affecting others, what's the problem? It looks like the only emissions would be propylene glycol and trace amounts of nicotine.

There's no ban against chewing tobacco, snus, or anything else, so why would you imagine this would be banned?

lakteller30 2009-02-28 01:15:40 PM
i work with a guy who has the cigarette, cigar and pipe that are electronic...the neat thing about it is that he can smoke inside our building, because he only blows out steam, not smoke...really neat

What I want to know is... where are all the non-smokers patronizing our businesses now that they told us what we can and cannot do? Seems like most people that vote against smoking in public don't even GO into public.

You're right, though.

soze [TotalFark] 2009-02-28 01:17:43 PM
As a non-smoker who has been enjoying the smoking ban, I would not mind at all about dropping the smoking ban if everyone went to these.

Enjoy your chemical intake all you like, just don't involve me in it, y'know?

Since anti-smoking laws are about criminalizing behavior far more than they are about substantiated health risks I expect these will be banned as well as - even if there is no smoke - people will be upset about the "image" of smoking somehow falling under the ban.

In a previous thread a farker who used these (or something similar) talked about folks coughing and waving their hand in the air and asking him to "put out his 'cigarette'" when he was using these.

It's a conditioned response people have to cigarettes based not in fact, but merely intolerance.

Oh, and it's the smoke that causes cancer Submittard, not the nicotine.

Subby is a farking moron.

Look, dickhead, if your problem with smoking is second hand smoke, then these are a solution. If your problem with smoking is that people hurt themselves thereby, then the subby is a busybodied potential Talibanoid who ought to move to Iran where they appreciate that kind of shiat. Nevertheless, if subby's so called problem is that smoking causes cancer, let me assure you that these too will cause cancer, as nicotine (like EVERY OTHER DRUG) is also a poison. However, they will not cause cancer at anywhere near the rate of smoked cigarettes, where the mechanism of pathology is irritation of the lungs from tar.

I really would like to try to see things subby's way, but I can't bend enough to get my head that far up my ass.

soze: As a non-smoker who has been enjoying the smoking ban, I would not mind at all about dropping the smoking ban if everyone went to these.

As a smoker who is just about fed up with Non-Smokers who are concerned about my health, I really appreciate your seeing it that way. Really. Thanks.

Yeah, last time I was in L.A. the clubs were totally dead...

Maybe no one's showing up at your businesses cause they suck.

They won't cause cancer. It's always been about the nicotine, not the cancer. Tobacco companies have been gene tweaking crops for decades to maximize nicotine content while trying to avoid that unfortunate "death" side effect that cuts into profits. It's about perfecting a nicotine delivery system that's socially acceptable.

Look up "exaggeration" in the dictionary. You'll learn a lot.

It was exaggeration, but I noticed a real impact on businesses in my city immediately after the smoking ban went into effect. Several times I was sent home strictly because no one was coming to patronize our business, and they had to keep the labor cost down.

But really, the smoking ban was great for business. Great for every business outside the city where the smoking ban went into effect. And it still is.

My god, the thing you learn from observing the world around you.

I quit smoking in July and I grew up in a home where both parents smoked. In other words, I never knew how much cigarettes stank until very recently.

I remember being in a store where the woman asked if I needed any cigarettes and wondered how she knew I smoked. Now I know.

I am shocked at the stench. It's truly horrid.

/won't where smoking is allowed. simple solution

Vajrakilaya 2009-02-28 01:36:03 PM
Ugh. Breathing vaporized antifreeze can't be good for you. And even though you're inhaling, the nicotine is absorbed through the oral mucosa, not the lungs. So you don't get that punch of a high you get from a cigarette.

Swedish snus (spitless tobacco you place in your upper lip) is a better solution.

I've had these for quite a while...4 cigarettes (one normal size, one 100s size), chargers, and 4 bottles of liquid with some replacement filters.

I don't like it much...when I smoke it I can taste the polyester that the nicotine soaks into, and I know smoking polyester can't be good for you either. Dry smoking is kind of nice...it's when you drip the nicotine directly onto the atomizer and puff for a bit. You get that burn in your lungs like a cigarette and can blow smoke rings.

katlass 2009-02-28 01:41:44 PM
I had one of these the other day in cigar form; the smoke tasted and smelled like vanilla. The nicotine delivered was in crazy high amounts, it was way too much, and some people were complaining about it.

All they need to do is throw some high fructose corn syrup or aspartame in there and it should go through quickly.

I bought a set of the e-cigs a year or so ago. Just not the same. The flavors were pretty bad, too. Maybe they've improved them by now.

The vapor was pretty weak, too. A weak draw, so to speak. It looks like they've improved that now as well...

May have to try the latest ones.

The aluminum gave the manufacturers Alzheimers and now they can't remember how to make them.

I have one of these, the NPro model. I just got it last week, and when I get a bottle of refill liquid I will never touch a real cig. I prefer the e-cig and wont miss tobacco at all. I totally love it, and its the coolest thing I've bought in years.

I was in a bar this past week. I showed it to the bartender. She is a non-smoker. She wanted to see how it worked, so I fired it up and exhaled the vapor directly towards her. She could not smell anything at all.

That's something I never noticed til I quit, either. I always wondered how the hell everyone knew I was a smoker; when the smell is ON you, you don't notice it, but everyone else sure as hell does. My brother smokes maybe a pack and a half a day, and just being in the same room as him is nasally unbearable.

Is that not actually the brain muscle?

I have one of these. I got by with it for a month or so, but the quality control of the cartridges seemed to be lacking. One time I would get a good dose of mist, the next time, not so much.

I do enjoy "smoking" it in public and having people come up to me and tell me that I "can't do that in here." I get a kick out of explaining it. Self-righteous people rock!

I've tried these cigarettes. Other than not getting burning down smaller when you "smoke" them they seem a lot like regular cigarettes. They are very mild.
