I wouldn't say that. There's a pretty significant year-to-year change in mental maturity from age 14 to 19 or 20 or so. I think most 16-17 year olds are mature enough to give informed consent to sex and manage the consequences. I wouldn't say the same thing about the average 14-15 year old.

Does it really have to be a male teacher? It could be any other relationship that results in statutory rape of a female minor by a adult male. Hell, you could even do statutory rape of a male minor by an adult male.

Fact is, the kid isn't damaged. it was consensual. Only in the US is a 15 year old not able to give consent for sex, but can be tried as an adult for heinous crimes.
