(YouTube) Video Most people don't remember how great the psychedelic band "Love" was... I wish these guys had forgotten about them. Thank God that Arthur Lee is dead, because this would have killed him   (youtube.com) divider line 25

Most people don't remember the polka band "Love", or the skiffle band "Love" either.

Or that sculpture with the big letters stacked on top of one another.

Well at least they're on the right track, song-selection-wise. Better than one could say for most bands out there...

And don't call Love a "psychedelic" band! That's like calling Led Zeppelin a "hard rock" band. It's a disservice.

P.S. Now we know the answer to the age-old question, "What would it sound like if the Shaggs covered 'A Message To Pretty' after staying up for 3 days without sleep?"

It's such an amazing song... I stumbled across this version while looking for decent covers, and strangely I wasn't disappointed.Music Nerd: And don't call Love a "psychedelic" band! That's like calling Led Zeppelin a "hard rock" band. It's a disservice.

I disagree... I think that Love, while certainly not constrained to psychedelic "genre" if you will, is one of the major contributors to the development of this subset of music. This term doesn't limit their accomplishments or influence, it merely puts them into context with regard to the huge variety of musical output during the late 60s.

This.

Pointing out that a band is a part of a genre, movement, or scene is in no way restricting them to anything. All any generic distinction is is a way to talk about groups of (in this case) bands, and contextualize them easily.

I would call Zeppelin "hard-rock" no problem.
AC/DC too. James Gang, even Rush are more or less "hard-rock"

I know enough about music to not allow a genre name pigeon hole the full scope of an artist's influence.

No, Joshua The Drummer, I do not want a CD/DVD of this.

"7 And 7 Is" is a lot more fun to play. Well, not for these guys probably... what puddle of goo might they dissolve into trying to play at that tempo?

Why the hell would someone put that up for the world to see/hear?

They should've covered 'Alone Again Or'...that might've been better...no, probably not.

Is it just me, or does someone's guitar need tuning? I don't think I've ever heard this song before; but, you know, how could I really tell?

It's not just you. I think all the guitars needed tuning. I just can't believe they finished that recording, watched it, and then decided that the world should see it as well.

I'm seriously afraid to click the link.

I personally discovered Arthur Lee after he had already died. I was on the computer and had the tv on the Ovation channel and that "Later...with Jools Holland" was on...he regrouped Love as his own personal band, but it was all about him anyway (and Bryan Maclean, but he had died ten years earlier), and I loved it. He played "Alone Again Or" and then he ended the whole show with "You Set the Scene", an epic song that sounds like a two-parter that I never could get out of my head since.

I wish I could've discovered him sooner.

"Signed DC" will make you want to stay in bed for a week and weep like a girl.

The guitar needs tuning, the drummer needs a metronome and they all need to shoot themselves.

Arthur knew that everybody's gotta live, and everybody's gonna die.
