From TFA: "After Eric Holder's comments Wednesday, blogger Radical Russ on NORML, the National Organization for Reform of Marijuana Laws, wrote that people should mark down 2/25/09 as "the beginning of the end of adult marijuana prohibition.""

4/20/09 would be a really cool date to mark the end of the end.

/TO 4/20--THE END OF THE END!

As a Californian with a couple friends that work at medical marijuana facilities, good work.

Only wish that those that I know with cancer lived in states where medical marijuana was legal. Regardless of it's legality, I will get my mom blunted if and when she goes through chemo again.

Not by a long shot. It's no secret that Holder disagrees with Obama on this issue- it wasn't too long ago he was pushing for increased mandatory minimums for marijuana. Holder is not a civil libertarian at all.

Bit of a stretch, isn't it? A ban on assault weapons says nothing at all about medical marijuana. Even Churchill2004 is making more sense with his questionable policy reference - which makes you look really dumb.

I dunno, I think the demonstrable stupidity of the scary-looking gun ban is relevant to a claim that Holder isn't a power-grabbing douche. I actually have to begrudgingly give Pelosi credit for being smart enough to shoot this down, even if only out of a pathological fear of a 1994 repeat more than any kind of principle.

cambie [TotalFark] 2009-02-28 12:51:58 AM
This makes me happy, but the assault weapons ban things pisses me off to no end. They want to help Mexico out and end the violence by banning assault weapons because the mexican cartels traffick drugs and GUNS? Do you think enacting a new law is going to stop them from trafficking? If you do, I'd like to take you out into the street and beat you severely with a baseball bat. All adding this law would do is INCREASE their trade. fark, I'd be tempted to buy one from them.

I truly wish there was a way to get through to my senator, congressman, etc, but none of them listen. I'm sick of wasting my time writing them letters.

We could walk there, it's just around the corner. Can we stop on the way and grab some snacks? Oh, maybe on the way home? What commercial is this.

Wait, are we going to Denny's? Excellent. Cheese sticks. Can you pay?

When I heard a california appellate court judge talk about how drug law from start to finish was a complete racket focused on sucking on the American taxpayers tit, I was just sickened.

How amoral can a justice system get when it comes down to imprisoning people for tax dollars?

I suppose that juvenile court judge jailing kids for kickbacks is worse, but jesus.

No. There is a valid point here. While becoming less overzealous on marajuana laws is a good thing, starting the gun control debates again is bad. The AWB was a worthless piece of legislation that did NOTHING, it has been proven.

On one hand he is being cool, and on the other he being a serious power douche. The douche still outweighs the cool so far.

Actually, any move in the direction of taking freedom from law abiding citizens is a power grab. Yes all of my usual conservative allies, the USAPATRIOT ACT was a power grab. It granted extra-constitutional power to the executive branch. It allowed for warrantless search and seizure. It allowed for people to no longer be secure in their papers and positions. The assault weapons ban would take a weapon that is basically less dangerous than a high powered hunting rifle, and make it illegal. Banning pot and other substances mean that instead of ADM and Pfizer producing them in a legally, a criminal organization is now making greater profits and more people are getting hurt.

He's not prosecuting people that are criminals under US law? So... explicitly not doing his job because he personally feels he knows better than the US congress?

Yeah, sorry, whether you agree with his personal stance or not he's being a power-grabbing douche here. The executive branch doesn't get to make the laws.

I'm finally home. Yay. The bay is lovely too bad it's too cloudy to go to the beach.
It really would be a "green" job, for sure.
I'm not sold on screwing with the Second Amendment.
The great thing about this country is it would be very difficult to invade because it's citizens are armed.
We need to deal with the idiots abusing existing laws instead.
That's my take on it.

We really need to start reminding politicians that we are armed. They need to know that they are not indispensable. A good start would be a 90% incumbency loss in 2010. Especially if third party canidates won a few of them.

Yeah, and then allow big business (another form of cartel) to get their grimy hands on it? No way. Sell it at greenhouses like any other plant and let people grow it themselves.

For Politics, we are armed with voting power. Since the GOP is a train wreck, now would be a great time for a third party to gain momentum and push the GOP to the sidelines permanently.

However, that party would need to find middle ground platform issues. Extreme policies always kill third parties.
