Commies drink Coke.

So of course Obama's team prefers it over all-American; Red, White, and Blue Pepsi

I just picked up that "sugar" coke form Mexico (bought at CostCo) and I don't think I can tell the difference.

However, I also cannot tell the difference between caffeine free drinks and the caffeinated brethren.

Coke instead of Pepsi. Reds instead of menthols. What kind of stereotype is he, anyway? ;-)

That's funny. I could tell the American from the Mexican soda right away. Plus, having the American soda taste ingrained, I really couldn't make an honest decision about which I would prefer if I'd never had either one.

All sensible people prefer Coke. I'm a Diet Coke fanatic myself. If a restaurant only serves Pepsi products I'll have iced tea instead. Yeah, I'm a badass.

Coke Zero FTW.

James F. Campbell 2009-02-27 02:21:31 PM
I, too, prefer Coke over Pepsi because Coke isn't as sweet, and because drinking it is slightly painful in a very pleasant way.

No Pepsi, Coke.

jackiepaper 2009-02-27 02:22:25 PM
No Pepsi.. Coke. No chip...fries. No cheesebourger...pancakes.

I guess this disproves the whole secret Muslim thing since Coke is for Jews and Pepsi is for Arabs. Maybe Barack is a secret Jew.

How many people actually prefer Pepsi over Coke? A few people, I'm sure, but I wonder what the actual proportion is. It may just be because I live in the south, but for almost everybody I know, Pepsi is like RC Cola... it's what you drink if it's the only thing available, but it's not what you buy in the store.

Apparently, in blind taste tests, people overwhelmingly prefer Pepsi.

Bschott007 2009-02-27 02:32:16 PM
Well, Pepsi does donate and support Hunter education and wildlife conservation. Coke, as far as my google searches have turned up, does not share this stance.

Given that, I pretty much just drink Pepsi.

James F. Campbell 2009-02-27 02:34:30 PM
Anyway, Diet Dr Pepper is superior to both.

In his book, Blink, author Malcolm Gladwell ascribes the success of Pepsi over Coca-Cola in these tests to being a result of the nature of "sip tests", which would fail to account for the cloying effect of excessive sweetness and glutamate and the complementary but counter-intuitive long-term preference for an item that would consistently lose in a blind sip-test comparison.

So, according to the critics, if Pepsi had given 8 ounce drinks and had samplers drink the whole thing, then Pepsi might well have lost. It's higher sweetness wins in sip tests but probably would fail in 8 ounce tests.

fifthhorseman 2009-02-27 02:36:20 PM
Coke to make drinks with, although Pepsi is better if alcohol is not involved.

Yukon Cornelius 2009-02-27 02:39:18 PM
James F. Campbell: Apparently, in blind taste tests, people overwhelmingly prefer Pepsi.

This is true, but that's also got Pepsi's marketing spin on it. As that article points out, it's speculated that while people may prefer Pepsi given a single sip, many of them lose their preference for it after multiple sips.

Is Coke making a grape flavor now?

/did not get that part in Harold and Kumar
//explained to me later

RemyDuron 2009-02-27 02:40:10 PM
Of course they do, they have tastes in their junk sugar water. Pepsi is like drinking straight sugar syrup, coke is far more bearable.

Probably the most "complex" of flavors in big name soft drinks is Dr. Pepper. Too bad I hate Dr. Pepper.

RemyDuron 2009-02-27 02:42:11 PM

Mexican coke is sometimes made with HFCS and sometimes with real cane sugar. There is a difference between the two, but it's not always obvious unless you have a completely clear palate (no other flavors interfering).

I've always wanted to get into the smaller, "indie" soda companies, but never lived anywhere big enough to have access to them.

Yeah, that seems to be the case. I dunno, I even prefer coke to pepsi in weird, one sip conditions. Some friends of mine claimed to have taken the "Pepsi Challenge" once and said that they fed them some weird stuff before or between drinking. I guess it could be like the pickles ginger with sushi, meant to clear your taste buds for the next item, but it seems like they could easily feed you something that would make coke taste like crap and pepsi taste good (In fact my friends claimed picked what they thought was coke, the less sweet of the two drinks, but were told they picked Pepsi).

Maybe I overestimate the effect of competing flavors. I am very sensitive to them. I can't drink any soda for hours after brushing my teeth due to the taste of tooth paste. I can't drink coke and eat sweet things, like fruit and chocolate.

Pepsi all the way. I can't stand Coke. Caffeine free diet Pepsi if I'm not in the mood for caffeine, Pepsi one for some caffeine, and Pepsi max if I want to be up all night.

Diet coke is just abysmal.

I can honestly say I've never met anybody who prefers Pepsi. Forget about international sales - I've never even seen Pepsi overseas (except in the specialty/imported drink section). How are they still in business, let alone so big?

I prefer Pepsi/Diet Pepsi over Coke when it's cold. When it's room temp I prefer Diet Coke.

Blind taste test, feh. Any American adult knows damn well what both Pepsi and Coke taste like, and it's a pretty safe bet that you weren't going to be in one of their Pepsi Challenge commercials if you picked Coke.

JimmyCarter'sSecondTerm 2009-02-27 03:47:49 PM
Coke is better than pepsi. Pepsi is too sweet and does not have enough cola bite. I just discovered that The Fresh Market in the Tampa Bay area carries Mexican Coke (they didn't when I worked there in Highschool) and have been buying that for the past few weeks. They cost more than a beer but are totally worth it, and I have been drinking less soda but enjoying the ones I have much more. Jones cola from Wallyworld is a good substitute, but nothing compares to the real thing.

/RC aint half bad in a pinch either.
