If Slash is a cancer, Axl is an extreme case of rectal polyps. Like HUGE. The kind you can see through clothing.

Axl was the only person with unique talent in Guns n' Roses. The others were just generic rock star types. That became evident when they split off and made generic rock type music while Axl's music is much more interesting.

Really? Slash's sound is the one type of guitar music that I can actually tell who is playing. If you were to rate the top five guitar players of all time you will see Slash up there.

Well that is my opinion

I wouldn't say all that... Slash is good.... Axl was a good front man, too.

interesting like the sound of pots and pans being banged together while a class full of 4th graders play the recorder and a middle aged man with braids talks in a really deep voice and then occasionally screams.

I was never a huge fan of GNR, but I've always been a fan of Slash's guitar playing. You are correct, you can identify his playing which is what makes him unique.

Axl Rose calls Slash a "cancer", effectively ending any hopes of delaying a Guns n' Roses reunion until they need the money a little more.

FTFY, subby.

That's the important part of all these music/art discussions. Maybe Slash is unique but not in a terribly impressive way. There are (probably, I'm too lazy to look) teenage Korean kids on Youtube who can play just like Slash but you'd be hard pressed to find one who can play with the same nuances as David Gilmour.

You'll have to be more specific than this.

They also want their joke back.

Slash is just a really good guitar player without Axl... which is good, but isn't the same as being GnR. Axl is nothing without Slash.

Both of them are kinda screwed. Too bad Axl is such an ass.

The 80s didn't suck, pal.

Also:

-1 for Subby. A mullet/New Jersey reference should be reserved for Bon Jovi.

GnR is still one of my fave bands.

And Slash is one of the top 25 guitar players of all time. Easilly.

How so? He's been known to throw temper tantrums, assault fans and storm off stage. Also notorious for short performances. Saw them in their heyday and was not impressed.

David Lee Roth he is not.

I played youth basketball with a Jerry Schmidt for years. He was the coach's son. Did he happen to grow up around Denver?

Both of them are a waste of time, space, and money that could better have been spent on people with talent, but, alas, popular culture would not let it be.

When I saw Axl Rose interrupt a 2006 performance of "Sweet Child Of Mine" to taunt a 14-year-old in the audience, I knew that it was all over. Also, for those of you keeping up on the accuracy of Axl's judgement about people, he recently called the book "Catcher in the Rye" garbage that should be banned from schools.

Tatsuhiko 2009-02-27 01:24:54 PM
I agree with all the Slash-y goodness. I'm not even a fan of GNR. I've always thought Axl as more of a douche with a worse off voice than Brian Johnson (AC/DC) and David Draiman. (Disturbed)

Not saying that Brian Johnson is a terrible vocalist (Draiman is, in my opinion for a vocalist), but his voice is not one for singing. Though, it is strangely unique.

I'd put Slash for my top ten "professional" guitar players. Unique if not talented.

Some of the others being John Petrucci, David Gilmour, Michael Romeo, Joe "The Satch" Satriani, Steve Vai, ... maybe Yngwie Malmstein, but he's a bit of a Swedish douche.

Herman Li is up there with unique. Though I wish Dragonforce could write worth a damn.

Izzy Stradlin was my favorite.

Nemo's Brother 2009-02-27 01:25:54 PM
Chinese Democracy is much better than anything Slash has done since they split ways. It may have bombed commercially, but that does not equate to quality. Otherwise Hanna Montana, Creed and Coldplay is better than any band any of you like.

LegacyDL 2009-02-27 01:27:02 PM
Why do lead singers always have problems with their guitarists?

The Beatles
Pantera
The Smashing Pumpkins
Rage against the Machine
The Clashiat's crap like that which makes certain band reunions a pipe dream at best.

Imbroglio 2009-02-27 01:27:26 PM
A wildly over-rated guitarist AND a cancer too, now?

Utter and abject fail.

I'm glad you didn't put Van Halen on that list because in that case, the overrated drummer and guitarist are definitely the douches.

I can see David Lee Roth being hard to work for, but Hagar? Come one.
