Lang and his partners are hoping to snag some of the original participants that performed at Yasgur's Farm back in '69, including Santana, the Who, Joan Baez, Joe Cocker, Grateful Dead, Country Joe and the Fish,

It's not Woodstock without Sha-Na-Na. After all they were the kings.

/you know it's true deep in your heart

When I was in college, and Woodstock 94 came around my friend's father asked us "What the hell is wrong with your generation you can't even come up with your own music festivals."

We then decided to take him to Lolapalooza he then really started to worry.

I'm sorry, but "we've got to get ourselves back to the Reichstag" just doesn't resonate with me.

shadowself 2009-02-27 10:25:46 AM
Oh neat, it seems that there is also a Woodstock in Germany. Who knew?

Bhasayate [TotalFark] 2009-02-27 10:26:37 AM
I ain't never been to know woodstock, so I'm surely not gonna go to this suck-fest.

Jonas Brothers are probably going to play, along with Fergie and Gwen. Maybe if they get lucky, Kayne West isn't doing anything, because he's SOOO woodstock.

Dughan 2009-02-27 10:38:06 AM
...I really wanna type a long ass rant decrying the state of music, youth, society, and the country in general, and point out how this is both symbolic and systemic.

I want to, but no one cares.

Get the hell offa my lawn!

christ, Woodstock 99 was a huge pile of suck, I can't imagine what 09's will look like.

Jonas Brothers?
Nickleback?
Paramore?
fallout Boy?
Kanye West?
Black Eyed Peas?

TheKingOfMexico 2009-02-27 10:42:43 AM
Hey, corporate assholes! Just give up on Woodstock already! It has absolutely nothing to do with the original festival, and all you're doing is farking the corpse of something that was really special in its time.

pkellmey 2009-02-27 10:51:22 AM
I'm sure it will be a non-smoking event.

vernonFL [TotalFark] 2009-02-27 11:11:26 AM
Why? They already have Bonaroo, Coachella, and Virgin festivals. Do we really need another huge mega festival?

/get off my lawn.

swahnhennessy 2009-02-27 11:12:50 AM
I'm gonna go just to see all the corporate sponsors. They rock!

Woodstock has gotten more awful every year. The original one will never be equalled, the '94 version had a nice mix of original Woodstockians and new bands. '99 was just a shill to make money. Not that '94 or the original wasn't, but even '94 was 25 years after the fact.

I Like Bread 2009-02-27 12:00:30 PM
They can do whatever they want; I won't be buying a ticket. I hope they've learned their lesson, though-- as '94 was a pretty cool event while '99 was obviously a corporate whorehouse turned mini-riot.

I was at Woodstock '99...we sat through temps in the mid-90's all day and saw mellow acts like Counting Crows, Dave Matthews and Alanis. As it started to get dark it was Kid Rock, Offspring and Limp Bizkit. Limp Bizkit totally incited the crowd which quickly got rowdy, causing the promoter to get on stage and tell everyone that they needed to calm down so that they could bring out the next acts = Rage Against the Machine and Metallica...just the things to calm a rowdy crowd

Did you know that more people died in the original Woodstoock than in the 94 and 99 Woodstocks combined?
And they had price gouging in the '69 one too.

I don't remember there being a rash of murders at Woodstock '99, the rapes and rioting seemed to be the major problems. And the three deaths in '69 were a heroin overdose, a ruptured appendix and someone getting run over by a tractor. Not bad for 400K people.

the Przystanek Woodstock in Poland is better. (new window)

everything from folk to hip hop to death metal. what more could you ask for?

Lumber Jack Off 2009-02-27 02:38:53 PM
to be fair, the venue in Berlin, the Tempelhof Airport actually does look like a cool place to hold a concert like this. large open area with infrastructure already built (I figure they'll probably use the terminals for operations and backstage) and it's in the middle of a city that has some of the best public tran in the world. I'm sure this festival will go off without a hitch.

www.pyromusikale.de

the new york one though, I don't think it will matter where they hold it - it will fail. if not for the bands they decide to gather, i'm sure something else will go wrong. afterall, it's the america/woodstock way!

Land Ark [TotalFark] 2009-02-27 03:14:36 PM
I can't quite put my finger on it, but sometime over the last couple years I have lost any desire to go to a huge show like this. Too many douches in a confined space, you are bound to run across a few.

My african-american, hispanic, and asian friends have all asked me why white people like concerts so much. I've never had a real answer for that.

Yes, declaring it a free festival early on sure was price gouging.

When my dad got there on Saturday he said it was only free because people tore down the fence.

Yeah, I really farking hate festivals. Sucks that there are a bunch of good bands who would prefer to play five festivals and then stay close to their hometown.

Once a venue crosses the threshold of 1,000-1,500 people, there is guaranteed to be an asshole near you, and somehow it is contagious.

Farking Mohammed.

These losers will not let the rotted corpse of the 60s be.

Lang needs a live.

A music festival where people throw feces at eachother? Pass.

Land Ark: My african-american, hispanic, and asian friends have all asked me why white people like concerts so much. I've never had a real answer for that.

I'm beginning to wonder it myself. It really showed at the closing ceremonies of the Beijing Olympics:

Beijing-made part part: Awesome gravity-defying and visually stunning show. I don't need to explain it, everyone saw it and will remember it as long as you live.

A double-decker bus rolls in for a London preview: A fairly cool unfolding bus that revealed a small concert of lipsyncing has-beens just below the quality of a Superbowl halftime show. Was I supposed to be all "OMG IT'S A CONCERT!"? It was unbelievably shiatty in comparison.
