What's the problem now? The thread you point to is headlined with troll shiat.

Hillary says Israel should expedite Gaza repairs. Has lunch with wife of founder of Hamas' opposition. Doesn't sound anti-Israeli. Big farking deal.

Israel shows a PSA against kids suicide bombing, which is, um, a good thing tm, and UAE gets its sandy panties in a twist. That's much more interesting.

Right, there's such a big problem with UAE buses getting their shiat blown up in Israel that it's just not funny.

No surprise there.

Most Muslim governments and citizens are heavily anti-semetic, support attacks against Israeli civilians, and would not mind if the Jews were driven into the see.

This makes them not so different from Fark.

Your link's busted. Here's the cartoon.

It's a stupid Flash cartoon done in the style of South Park. It's kind of amusing if you have the sense of humor of a twelve-year-old (which we all do, or else we wouldn't be on Fark). Really nothing to get one's panties in a twist over.

And the fact that the Palestinians would immediately engage in genocide and ethnic cleansing.

Of course, when the Jewish population would try to the stop this, the UN would sanction their disproportional response.

Wait. These kids are in Israel, stop to get ice cream on their way to put a bomb on a bus. They change their mind and put it on a UAE bus. Since when are there buses lines running between Israel and the UAE? That's sounds like one long, uncomfortable bus ride. Plus, if your passport shows evidence of travel to Israel you will be denied entry to the UAE. I worked in Dubai for a time and got in some hot water because I forgot to have my visa stamped on a separate piece of paper. You think our TSA people are harsh? Pish! The UAE people are down right scary nasty.

Anyone find a link to the video?

If they weren't wrong so often, you'd have a point. They've managed to be wrong about dealing with Palestine for the last 60 years. They've got their domestic and economic shiat on lock, with the exception of the disenfranchisement of Arab parties and some shoddy treatment of Arab Israelis, but there aren't many Israeli domestic policy debates on Fark.

If the countries could run the larger collective territory as a condominium, then yes, that might work. Unfortunately there's very little historical precedent for that. Even allies are reluctant to form a condominium, and even then I don't think a condominium has ever been formed from as an entire sovereign nation (correct me if I'm wrong).

And without the condominium, nothing would get done, at all. Things would be worse than what they are now, which is pretty bad.

Plus, Israel's got to man up. This country disturbs the hell out of me for reasons too long for me to list, but here's some:

- The country was founded, essentially, by terrorists, through terrorist actions. Not only was this not repudiated, but they actually handed out medals too the terrorists for their services.

- The Jews there are primarily not Semites. They're not native to the region, they're typically native to Europe. There's far more Muslim/Arab semites than Jewish ones.

- They treat an area -- loosely and wrongly called a country -- with little to no international presence, no infrastructure and no armed forces -- as an area to be colonized and settled and then baffle at the hostility this engenders from a disenfranchised people.

- Around 10 years ago, you used to have to carry a card to prove you weren't Arab or Muslim. Srsly. Whether or not you still have to is beyond my scope of knowing, so I can't say. Papers, please!

Yah. I'm getting so tired of all this bullshiat.

Force is not going to solve any problems in and around Israel.

The only way I see out of this shiatshake is using sensible media campaigns (which this is not) plus providing goods and services for all regarless of ideology/religion. Not the old "death to jews!" or "I can has misile strike on Gaza strip?" but, you know, "we can have hospitals and schools for all. We can do business without fear of death" Etc etc

These guys just have to start putting Israelis and Palestinians in the same room and start talking. You know, living life together? There are some clips out there about this programme where they had former soldiers and combatants from both sides talking to eachother. Re-telling their experiences and sharing their grief. Looking at it you could almost feel the bridges being built right there and then.

"I lost my son to a missile attack and I hated you for it".
"My niece died in a suicide attack in a night club and I went active duty in the IDF".
"We've killed people and nothing's changed"
"We've been played"
"We are so very sorry"

Seeing people that have taken lives without a second thought talking to eachother like that and crying and hugging is quite a thing. Inspiring, I'd say.

The problem is that an approach like that would take two or three generations worth of sustained work to start showing results and I don't see anybody willing to start something they won't live to see come to fruition. So much for the 'for the children!' mantra coming from both sides.

Whenever I talk about this coflict I tend to side with the Israelis if nothing else because I would also lose my cool if I keep hearing my neighbors demanding my blood and my being erased from the face of the planet. On the other hand, shiat like this ad kills any support I may offer real fast.

It's a shiatshake, I'm telling you. So sad.

Oddly enough, except for the last one, sounds EXACTLY like the founding of the USA.

And as for the non-semite thingy... I'm Semitic. Partially, but enough to be called 'Jewish', though I don't practice that religion. My family was Jewish enough to be forced out of their homes in Minsk round the turn of the 20th century, and would have been Semitic enough to have to be protected in 1930s/40s Europe.

Where am I going with this? I don't know exactly - except that I do have a kinship of such with a very wide variety of people, from all over Europe and other formerly-Roman lands.
