Sounds like a good metal song!

Good Metal is rebellious. Canadians are just too damn polite.

Rocker: "I'm on the Hiiiighway to Hell!"
Canuck: "Okay. Drive safe then."

There's great Canadian hair metal (Triumph, Trooper, Chilliwack, Prism) and great Canadian punk (DOA, Forgotten Rebels, Real McKenzies, Skinny Puppy) but speed meatal? Nothing really comes to mind.

Canadian heavy metal? Sucks?

i194.photobucket.com

If you're talking about them, giggity.

/When you're 14 and getting into metal and you see HOT CHICKS growling into a microphone and playing drop D blast beats (although you don't know what those are yet) something inside of you wants you to drive 42 hours to say, "Hi! You rule!" Get back in your car and drive home.

//Also; WTF? You guys forget Kataklysm?

satanicsantoku 2009-02-26 09:31:39 PM
never heard of anvil. lemme look em up...
ok, this is terrible, turn it off.

speaking of good canadian metal, fark the facts shreds so hard it hurts, and the frontwoman is a stone-cold fox, and kitty sucks.

/kataklysm is canadian?

I have a quick question for Canadian Farkers.

I love the band NoMeansNo. I want to see them but they dont come to the States ever. Is the trip worth it?

puddleonfire 2009-02-26 09:45:47 PM
They just needed to tour their asses off to get noticed and sell merch.
Too bad Cephalic Carnage couldn't be there to give that advice.

Yes. 25+ years on the road have mad them a pretty solid live act (^). I don't know how close you are to the border, but they are about to tour (^) (most of the way) across Canada. I'm seriously considering a 2 day trip to Montreal to see them. Montreal is part of the attraction, though.
I'd also recommend catching their Hockey/Ramones obsessed alter-egos's The Hanson Brothers (^).

As for Canadians being to polite to do real metal, whoever said that has obviously have never heard The Dayglo Abortions, and that's just sad.

/Anvil sucks

Boris S. Wort [TotalFark] 2009-02-26 10:25:09 PM
Damn, there was supposed to be a live Nomeansno link there. Well, here (^) it is.

Green Bastard 2009-02-26 10:35:02 PM
The thing is, in the European metal scene, Canada has one of the best reputations for producing quality metal acts.

/Anvil, or as I like to call them, Advil, just isn't one of them.

Canadian metal?
What about Strapping Young Lad, Death Sentence, Spread Eagle (although I wouldn't call them metal, personally), and the king-daddy of them all: VOIVOD!
I mean, yeah, there's been some crap: Helix, Kick Axe, Lee Aaron (hot though), I think lumping them as bad because they're Canadian is kinda lame. Who do you think you are, Valdes?

Oh, Gunny, I second what Boris said: nomeansno is a must. I had the honor to open for them, in Kamloops BC at a First Nations Reserve Hall of all places, and they were all class. I'm going to their show on April 3 in Vancouver. Woo!!

I had nearly lost hope of seeing VOIVOD in this thread until your post.

/Kataklysm is good- I saw them on tour with VADER (\m/) and Destruction a while back. (Also Graveworm, and two other bands I forgot) Unfortunately, only Kataklysm and Vader made it to the venue- the other bus broke down in Virginia. :(

I think these guys are bigger perverts than they are rockers. On the "Heavy Metal" album they thanked penicillin, hot pu**y everywhere and The Porcupine Health clinic. Real cruisin tunes. I like em.

Don't bother dude. He spams his shiat-tastic "music" in every music thread.

Yes, Nomeansno are Canada's punk Gods. If you get the chance, definitely go see them. Although in the past few years, they've been playing a lot of their long, drawn out stuff live. Your best bet is to see the Hanson Brothers live. Smartest, most technically proficient, and most kick-ass three chord punk you will ever see.

Ah Kittie, the goth-metal-punk-rawk marketing wet dream group. I was shopping at a Toronto gothy-type store and they were in there before doing a show. Store was cranking Bauhaus and the members asked who was playing. I'm pretty sure both me and the store clerk gave a facepalm to that one. Good marketing, but if you're going to play the part, at least have the decency to learn the part.

/my lawn of blackness, off it.

This is why you never rose to stardom. Because you suck. If you weren't Canadian, you would have never seen an audience of more than 150 people.

+1 for F*ck the Facts, seen them a dozen times, they used to play my place often... Mel's got a great growl... Deamon (one of Topon Das's other bands) is pretty good too

Anvil also played my bar last year, I thought they were pretty good, as far as 80's speed/hair-metal went... also got a free Anvil skullcap from them, my wife hates it so I wear it just to piss her off :)

Kitty was the worst band I've ever seen in my life, and I've seen a few... only metal band I've ever seen boo'd off the stage

and don't forget Despised Icon and Mesrine if you're tallying canadian metal
