For all the money spent and lives lost we'd better get a good discount on our opium and hash.

This is one of those things that no matter how untrue the meme becomes it will never go away. And probably flame some Canadians in the meantime, if they're smart enough to get the joke.

How many banks more does the US Government own compared to say, Venezuala?

Exchange rate jokes never get old. Really, they're so fresh and original, I'm glad that Canadian hater Drew greenlights this stuff. shows how much he cares.

Ah it's OK, I for one am delighted with the good natured ribbing we get over our currency exchange.

Of course I go to bed knowing that my banking system isn't teetering on the brink of collapse too, so I guess we're even then.

Yes, our financial system is ever so backward. Barter system, igloos, solvent financial institutions, banks with low leverage ratios...we are so out of touch with the modern ways. Sad.

You shouldn't, Canada's banks are not sufficiently separated from ours to avoid being dragged down with us during the collapse. Most of the world is pretty much screwed.

In a few days my family and I will be flying down to Orlando to spend a lot of those CDN dollars.

I figure based on the unemployment rate in Florida, the deficit faced by all level so gov't that my CDN dollars will be viewed as pure blissful manna.

Great deals too, buy three days of Disney get two more days free, and the deals on renting condos are also amazing. Orlando is cheaper than mexico, not quite as dangerous tho...

You're so right. RBC just announced their earnings, and they were down a whopping 17%. The poor company had a loss of $1 billion. What's that? Oh, sorry, it was a profit of $1 billion for the quarter.

Nationalization generally means taking it and owning it for a while. We aren't doing that. It was NEVER socialism, what Bush was doing. The government propping up big business is not socialism.

[snort]

Fark You Canada. I go up there all the time, spend all kinds of dough up there.

When the dollar is good, you try to rip me off.

When the dollar is bad, you really try to rip me off.

I laugh at your retardation of ripping off Americans though, I always bring tons of your Monopoly money.

veale728: holy sh*t, they still sell pogs??

Yeah, you get them as small change everywhere on bases in Afstan, even ours. PXs, including the one in New Canada House at KAF, only take U.S. currency (Camp Mirage also takes [redacted local currency]) and anything less than a buck is paid out in pogs. Guess the state department doesn't want to haul around tons of change, and troops don't want pockets of jingling coins. I'm told they are collector's items.

So, reading between the lines, what you're saying is that you bring foreign currency into a country and try to spend it. When they accommodate you by accepting your foreign currency, you get pissy because they don't do so at a rate that's favourable to you (yeah, favourable with a "u" motherfarker!). But now you're tricking the Canadians by actually exchanging your foreign currency for the local currency.

You, sir, are a cunning traveler.

The worst is the American travelers who go into Canadian stores, pay with USD (which we will gladly take at some exchange rate set by the company) but get pissy because you don't give them USD back in change...

Pretty damn stupid.

In michigan when I was waiting tables through college, I once waited on a party of canadians. At the end of the meal their professor comes up to me and tells me that they are college students and in addition to wanting 30 separate checks he was wondering if I could let them opt out of the mandatory party gratuity because they are only college students.

I told him I was a college student and instead of taking trips to other countries on my friday nights I was here at work. He says "well, then you understand how little money these guys have, I'm glad you could help us" and I say "no, I understand how your poor college class evidently has more money than me, so I'll be adding the gratuity, thank YOU for understanding my situation".

Not really a currency issue, but it is my opinion that a certain percentage of the human population is inclined to shiat all over any place they don't live.

Well I actually love your country, I am a gracious guest, and have received wonderful service. I do not begrudge anyone for making a profit either. I have been there enough throughout the last 17 years to recognize how things are done. It is not often, but you can easily tell when they are being greedy.

Try
to rip you off? Sounds like the businesses up here do better than try to get 'all kinds' of your dough. 'Retardation' of ripping you off? If you want to take intelligence, I'm going to go with the guy making money over the retard getting ripped off and coming back for more.

For the record, everybody gets ripped off on many things up here. At least our banks haven't ripped us off by fleecing our taxpayers for hundreds of billions of bailout money.

On the exchange rate, pretty sure we're headed back to parity or beyond. 1.75 trillion-dollar deficits aren't go to bring the dollar up, that's for sure. Not to mention paying it back someday...good luck with that.
