I will. I'll bet fifty bucks that no charges stemming from anything they did pertaining to the positions they held in US office will ever result in charges to either. The US populous is too lazy to pursue it, now that they're "gone." Besides, isn't American Idol on tonight?

The tribunal is actually rather disconnected from the normal UN politics that prevent any sort of progree on much of anything.

Of course the US way would be so much better. Not only did they refuse to participate in the International criminal court and lobbied against it, they actually actively sabotaged the tribunal by bribing many thrid world countries and there is still a Busah era law on the books that says if they ever try to try someone with an US passport in Den Hague the US will invade the Netherlands.

I really don't think that Americans of all people have any grounds to crtizice the war crimes tribunal at this point.

There is no chance in hell of Cheney or any other American tried for war crimes. There was once a call for Kissinger to stand trial for war crimes. Where is Henry Kissinger now? He is living happy, healthy, secure and wealthy existence in some pleasant climate. I forgot to add privileged. Cheney will do the same. Only wealthier. American soldiers and their families will carry the burden. Live a precarious existence, fighting for benefits, committing suicide and leaving children scarred for life by the experience of their parents. Damn it all! The people who sacrifice the most! Bloody Hell! Screw Bush and Cheney!

In your opinion, what did Milutinovic do that constituted war crimes? Which kind of power did he hold while in office, and how does that compare to the power and actions of Bush and Cheney?
I'm only asking you to enlighten us because you are obviously an expert, not only on recent Yugoslavian/Serbian history, but also international law.

I can't wait to see what the US does when Sudan's President Bashir gets indicted for war crimes and genocide. With their permanent seat in the Security Council, the US vote is needed to bring Bashir to court by force, but if they give their vote, they're supporting the ICC and if they don't they're protecting a war criminal.

Their crimes took place during a Serb-led military campaign against Kosovo's ethnic Albanian population during the first six months of 1999 before a NATO bombing campaign forced a halt to the operation.

Anyone who has studied the history of the NATO action in Kosovo knows that NATO was looking for a chance to flex its' muscles. The atrocities and the civilian casualties mostly happened AFTER the NATO bombings, and this is is actually verified in NATO's own reports. Milosevic was no saint, but he wasn't the monster that the NATO forces were purporting him to be.

I think this was the first time I ever remember hearing someone say they were bombing a city for "humanitarian reasons".

The ethnic cleansing, which was among the strongest arguments for intervention, was well under way though, with 80% of the population of Kosovo forced out and living in refugee camps all across Europe.
Whether or not NATO needed to flex anything, it was kinda hard to ignore the problem.

I think this was the first time I ever remember hearing someone say they were bombing a city for "humanitarian reasons".

NATO commited war crimes too, and it's a disgrace that no one has been charged over that.

I dunno, pretty sure the US can just abstain right? Originally, according to the Charter, all P5 had to vote positively in order for a motion to go through, but shortly after 45 they started fudging that rule and haven't looked back.

On a different topic, for all those people who are saying that the UN is worthless since it let the man get off free, well, I think you're ignoring the point that they convicted a whole bunch of his subordinates on the charges. According to this article, Milutinovic was president of Serbia and apparently didn't play a very large role in formulating policy w/r/t the war, whereas the other guys, along with Milosevic who was Pres of the whole of Yugoslavia, actually went about it.

Its fair justice and its over. The tribunal, as far as I'm concerned was a success.

It's different with the ICC. To forcibly arrest a head of state you need positive votes from all 15 members of the Security Council, as far as I know.
It's not like the US vote is going to be the only tricky one, but it will be needed; Bashir is not likely to surrender himself like Milutinovic, and waiting for him to relinquish power and get arrested by Sudanese security forces to be handed over to the Hague like Milosevic would probably be futile. He's more likely to be killed in a coup.
