Where in the heck did they get the box of bones? Whose were they?

The Pixies have a song called that, too. What the hell?

yeah, my question exactly. I thought, unless they were from antiquity (think physicians model from the 19th century) that was illegal to own (and just downright creepy).

Deer bones (or insert some other animal) would be decidedly less creepy, but something tells me this is just cheap BS for advertising, especially when the "rolling of the bones" will be hidden under layers of jangly brit-pop indie-dance pablum.

/I sorta like them, but they're no second coming, if you know what I mean.

If you know about the pixies song, you really have no excuse for not being familiar with Tom Waits' "Bone Machine" album.

Total BS. Ask Mars Volta about the creepy things that seem to happen on every album they make -- it's all for publicity.

/Earth Died Screaming actually has some strange percussion on it that's probably supposed to be bones
//great song

Gimmicks won't help this lame novelty act.

When you release a press statement like this stating you made a song using human bones it's pretty obvious that they're doing it for publicity.

I'm sure some industrial or black metal group have to have done something like this. I know Einstürzende Neubauten tried to do something with raw meat that didn't work out. All they managed to get was a bunch of squishy sounds out of it, which didn't exactly work, so they supposedly left it hanging in the studio to rot to increase the "ambience" and "influence" their musical output.

I don't know about that. My HS biology teacher (who also taught a basic Anatomy and Physiology class) had a human skeleton hanging up in the classroom, which I assume was legally acquired. She didn't know the source, but she did tell me once that it came packed in Chinese newspapers.

Bones don't just hang together - they have to be cleaned and preserved, and then have hardware attached to connect the joints. I expect that would take enough skill and effort that it would be hard to do under the radar.

I think I'm the one guy in the world who doesn't like much of Bone Machine.

Heart of Saturday Night ftw.

Talk to this man about using raw meat as a percussion device.

You can buy human bones, no problem. Google is your friend.

If I'm ever strapped for cash I'm going to hock my skeleton, as it were.

I will agree with both of you; Frank's Wild Years and Heart of Saturday Night are far superior to Bone Machine...which isn't a slam; just personal opinion.
Though lately I've been playing the hell out of Orphans.

I think we can all agree that every one of his albums are great and far better than 95% of the stuff that is out there.

/small change ftw

I find myself agreeing with your post.

Apparently they don't wanna grow up. Or it could be that they wanted their sound to be all stripped down for this one. I'm sure that interview was such a scream, but gimmickry will never give Fraz Ferdinand that feel.

/ Tom Waits for no Man.
/ He's standing right there at the corner of Dylan and Bukowski.
/ He is the man.

You want a toe? I can get you a toe, believe me. There are ways, Dude. You don't wanna know about it, believe me.
Yeah, but Walter...
Hell, I can get you a toe by 3 o'clock this afternoon... with nail polish. These farking amateurs...

This new FF album, like the two before it, is excellent poppy dance rocky stuff. Relax people. It's pop music - nothing that important.

Nice! I wonder which album that was for. I'm guessing Tabula Rasa, considering the artwork.

The one rumor I heard about EN was that they went down into the basement of the UN building in Geneva and starting banging on the pipes, causing the building to shake.

/wouldn't surprise me
//saw EN in '04 - outstanding show

I'm listening to the album right now, so I'm getting a kick...etc.

It's really good. Different...a bit more synth-y, less punk-y. Still great.

I so desperately want a human skeleton. Most medical supply and/or scientific supply houses sell them. They're farkin' pricey, as in $3K and up.

/pretty reasonable, actually
//i'm sure yours is worth at least that much to you
