(Starpulse) Cool AC/DC, Pink Floyd and Metallica honored by a new line of sneakers. Unfortunately a line of Coldplay shoes were discontinued, after it was pointed out that they were a direct rip-off of the Joe Satriani model   (starpulse.com) divider line 36

thread about music + completely unrelated dig on Fark's favorite music punching bag = greenlight ...

What about artists like Marvin Gaye and Curtis Mayfield? If you're going to sell shoes you have to include the soul.

The AC/DC sneakers will come out with a new design every year, but they'll be completely indistinguishable from the ones that came the year before. This will in no way affect their sales.

The Pink Floyd shoes will be hailed as great by millions, but will progressively get less interesting the longer you wear them. They'll also last forever, even as big chunks of their original material falls off.

The Metallica sneakers will be awesome and loved by many in their initial run, but by the time subsequent designs come out, the quality will have diminished significantly. After a few years, they'll only be worn by people who lie to themselves that the new shoes are just as good as the old ones used to be.

Bobthefascist I want a pair of those

I made these for my 10 year old nephew who got his first electric guitar for his birthday. I told him that he already had baseball shoes, basketball shoes, golf shoes and church shoes, but he didn't have guitar shoes. Apparently he wears them all the time (he lives out of state). Just pick up some red Chuck Taylors at a retailer near you, and some white and black fabric paint from Michael's craft store. $30 bucks, maybe.

Actually, Vans has Johnny Ramone. Converse did a Ramones shoe in denim a couple of years ago. I have a pair.

Converse also has Ozzy & Black Sabbath, the Doors, the Grateful Dead, and Kurt Cobain.

Yep, he will have a line of EVH Converse out before summer.
Check out his EVH gear site.

I was going to buy some Michael Jackson shoes, but they only make them in kid's sizes.

When I was a younger, more idealistic lad, the thought of Pink Floyd selling out and alowing their classic album designs to adorn athletic footwear would have filled me with such shock and horror, it would have kept me awake for weeks in an egregious malaise of disillusioned ennui...

Now, it's like, "Will March of 2010 never get here?"

They should call the AC/DC ones "Concrete Shoes".
Pink Floyd should be the "Run Like Hell" line.
Metallica's should have steel toes.

If you're referring to the Jerry Only Misfits, as opposed to the shoes, I totally agree. The new Misfits and their fans ruined a badass logo.

kind of like
a) Rick Wright's cocaine addiction in the late 70's?
b) their "echoes" collection a few years back?

I'd ridicule anyone that:

A: Paid more than $20-$30 for a pair of plain-old canvas Chuck Taylors (They used to be dirt cheap, that's why they were so popular with us misanthropes)
B: Paid an extra $20 just to have douchey mainstream band logos on the shoes they already paid too much for!

When I saw a pair of slip-on Vans with "The Germs" on them, I knew they were just making fun of us consumers. Instant punk ethic for $55!

/Wal-Mart owns the AC/DC brand now.
//Keep on contributing to the gentrification of rock & roll, you turds

They're like $40 here. I've never seen them cheaper than $30, even back in the 80s.

/Had my pre-Nike Chucks for 6 years.

i never buy into all the schwagg crap - except perhaps a concert T - my image is not made up of corp logos from AE or the GAP or esp old navy - neither is it made by wearing the images of other people.

but --

Get me a roll of toilet paper with Gene Simmons face on it and i will gladly pay for it ...

I used to buy them for $20 and some change in the late 80's! There was a shoe shop near my house that had them all day for that price. I think Mervyn's even sold them for $25. Them, and Airwalks.

I currently have 8 pair, and almost all of them were bought for close to $20. Ross, TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Thrift Stores...most of them have shiny new Chucks.

I just never understood paying for brand or retail prestige. Ed Hardy douchebags, I'm looking in your direction!

I have the Iron Maiden Powerslave slip-on Vans. I would never wear the Eddie ones in public. I think the Germs ones were okay, and the Bad Brains ones were ugly. Would not rock any of these other bands in the 21st century, regardless of how cool the shoes looked... except maybe The Who with a mod-style male-symbol slip-on.
