honestly, this is the best part of the speech last night. It makes sense, it gives the VP a role implementing the president's policies (so not to upstage him), and Biden seems perfect for the job.

I like the idea of Biden taking a personal role in watching for waste. Seems like a good idea.

Could they possibly have put a bigger idiot in charge of the oversight of almost $800 BILLION? The guy is like the Ted Baxter of politics.

The line got a huge laugh from the Members of Congress in the House Chamber, who are familiar with the loquacious Blue Hen from his decades as a senator from Delaware, and made Biden grin and blush in his seat behind the president.

5. "Look, John's last-minute economic plan does nothing to tackle the number-one job facing the middle class, and it happens to be, as Barack says, a three-letter word: jobs. J-O-B-S, jobs." --Joe Biden

4. "A man I'm proud to call my friend. A man who will be the next President of the United States - Barack America!" --Joe Biden, at his first campaign rally with Barack Obama

3. "When the stock market crashed, Franklin D. Roosevelt got on the television and didn't just talk about the, you know, the princes of greed. He said, 'Look, here's what happened." -Joe Biden, apparently unaware that FDR wasn't president when the stock market crashed in 1929 and that only experimental TV sets were in use at that time

2. "Hillary Clinton is as qualified or more qualified than I am to be vice president of the United States of America. Quite frankly, it might have been a better pick than me." --Joe Biden, speaking at a town hall meeting in Nashua, New Hampshire

1. "Stand up, Chuck, let 'em see ya." --Joe Biden, to Missouri state Sen. Chuck Graham, who is in a wheelchair, Columbia, Missouri, Sept. 12, 2008

DON'T mess with Joe.

It's a result of Delaware's small town politics. Everyone knows everyone. If you're fake or an asshat, people will know.

/ One of my friends served Biden food and was impressed by how friendly and down to Earth the guy was

Obama told Joe to "Watch for waste" and Joe has been sitting by the toilet ever since.

vort3xxx 2009-02-25 03:04:15 PM
Am I the only one who was surprised by this appointment? I was expecting "John McCain" to roll off of Obama's tongue last night when introducing the position. After all, Republicans are often biatching about wasteful spending, why not put them in charge of wasteful spending oversite? On one hand, it would seem like a good use of their self-proclaimed skills, and on the other it would make them feel like part of the solution.

And in other places we'll just use the television, the radio and the media to embarrass them for not doing what their' supposed to do," Biden said to Good Morning America's Robin Roberts.

It's now the government's job to get involved in states politics, buying airtime to attack their decisions? That sounds kinda petty, and a waste of tax dollars.

It would certainly have put the ball squarely in the GOP's court, would it not? But then, it would have set up a showdown between Obama and Pelosi/Reid; a fight I don't think Obama is willing to fight or able to win.

As the last election, the passage of the stimulus bill and every other confrontation has clearly shown us?

I'm having a little trouble seeing your point.
Would you like take a try at rewording it?

Shaggy_C 2009-02-25 03:10:18 PM
Funny they put the guy with billions in earmarks during his decades of pork slinging in the Congress in charge of preventing "misuse" of funds. I guess 'misuse' depends on how good a buddy it is getting the kickbacks. Sen. Barack Obama sought more than $3.4 million in congressional earmarks for clients of the lobbyist son of his Democratic running mate, Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr. of Delaware, records show. Obama succeeded in getting $192,000 for one of the clients, St. Xavier University in suburban Chicago.

Are you under the impression that the President or vice-President would have to buy airtime to get their message out?

What? You're resorting to trolling?
You and I both know that earmarks are the way Congress disburses money.
And yes, part of that is pork - but we call that compromise - which is the way our government is meant to work.

Come on man, you're better than this shiat.

priestrape 2009-02-25 03:14:54 PM
if Biden, Pelosi, Reid and Boehner were locked in a room for the next four years, unable to communicate with the outside world, would America be better off or worse off?

I think the answer is obvious

After the public scruiteny the recipients of federal funds have gotten over the past few months does anyone honestly believe humiliation would have any affect? These people have no humility.
