To be fair, huge bags of money restore a lot of dignity to one's sense of self.

Bags of money or not, openly begging Congress for this, because it is better for them, is shameful.

I was going to say something about openly asking your elected leaders to address your concerns about how their decisions affect you is how it is supposed to work. Then I realized neither Seal nor Shakira is American and Eddie Van Halen may or may not be a citizen.

Who was the sadistic bastard who thought it would be good to record Shakira singing?

Put her in videos, preferably pr0n, but keep her out of recording studios.

Great_Milenko 2009-02-25 01:51:16 PM
so how should people buy concert tickets, then? nobody wants to have to go stand in line at the record store/venue anymore. Everybody wants instant, total access to everything. this what just you're going to end up with, and they can't do it for free.

Sometimes one has to do something little bit crazy to survive in difficult economic situation

Lumber Jack Off 2009-02-25 02:22:17 PM
i just buy tickets at the venue or if it's a club gig pay cash at the door. sometimes even the up charge that venues charge on the day of the show still ends up being cheaper than what ticketbastard rapes you for with service charges.

What a coincidence! I support merging Van Halen, Shakira and Seal.

Preferably using some sort of extremely high temperature and pressure device, or perhaps a giant blender or wood chipper.

...All you know about me is what I've sold you, Dumb fark. I sold out long before you ever heard my name. I sold my soul to make a record, Dip shiat, And you bought one. All you read and Wear or see and Hear on TV Is a product Begging for your Fatass dirty Dollar So ... Shut up and Buy my new record Send more money Fark you, buddy...

they're only for this merger because it could help their personal profits. who cares if it creates a monopoly which charges $15 a ticket in fees, right guys? that couldn't possibly turn off, ya know, their FANS which might want to come see them live but don't want to support ticketmaster? cripes. never supported any of them before and this makes sure that i won't ever.

Van Halen is relevant ... how?

/I'd even settle for Hager right now.

I see a lot of live music and haven't given any of these people a cent in years.

/support local music

Right now? So what are you waiting for?

My concern is that when this Monopoly is allowed to happen, Ticketmaster will start finding ways to make sure a live music event can't happen anywhere unless they are involved. That might screw local music scenes.

/local music guy
//probably a little too paranoid.

They have already infiltrated many larger local venues. It's only a matter of time before the bouncers at your local dive bar are wearing ticketmaster polo shirts, and extracting convenience fees for taking your cover charge money.

So, what? Artists that have been mega popular and sold zillions of albums and have had long and healthy careers are now sell outs because they like money?

I think you are a little late to the cynicism party, Subby.

Savoir-Faire 2009-02-26 12:16:13 AM
I read some of what the Senate said in talking to the two CEO's in the newspaper today. It doesn't look good for the merger. Senators are not buying the company line, and are just short of asking, "You don't really expect us to believe this shiat, do you?"

Hoopy Frood 2009-02-26 04:52:03 AM
Is there a SELL-OUT or a Corporate Whore tag?

Yeah, it's just to the left of the [ASININE] tag at the top of this page.

For the record: isn't Van Halen managed by Irving Azoff, CEO of Live Nation?

Just asking?

But yeah. So is Journey, and they issued a statement as well.

and Seal. And Shakira.

Crazy. All the bands the CEO of Ticketmaster manages and they support the merger.

Crazy!

Ahem:

http://www.brownpapertickets.com/

I would love to see someone along the lines of Radiohead get behind these guys and get them alot more exposure.
