Too true. Course, back when Hanson was big I was listening to Genesis and discovering oral sex.

New Age Redneck 2009-02-24 02:50:04 PM
Marilyn Hanson?

kellecaster 2009-02-24 02:50:26 PM
ummmmm... I think this is pretty good. The kid from Hanson sounds great. Very very Cheap Tricky.

You can find a complete Tinted Windows song^ at the Rolling Stone website.

It's giddy happy power pop with Iha's ultradistorted guitar. Pretty bland but I bet that if you play it enough times it'll get stuck in your head and you'll hate yourself for it.

My humble veredict is: "meh+".

romanmaronie 2009-02-24 02:53:04 PM
I so wanted to hate this, but didn't. It's very catchy, very Cheap Trick. Hell, I might buy it when it's released. Maybe....

When I read the headline, I immediately thought of this Tainted Window (new window)

/It's "Tinted Windows", btw.

Let's see... if it was 1997, that would've been the year I bought Wind & Wuthering. Then Calling All Stations came out in September, but we won't talk about that.

Power pop is a guilty pleasure of mine. I like the second song on this video... the one that sotua linked to.

this *can't* be real, unless they were trying to make the cheekiest promo they could...

james iha went albino and refused to re-join the pumpkins to do this? sure. makes perfect sense.

Considering 99% of the Pumpkins catalog is a humorless Corgan-wankfest, he made the right choice.

needless to say, i disagree. billy corgan is a guitar god. it's not wanking when there's feeling behind it. someone like yngwie may be more technically proficient, but he's incapable of writing a guitar solo that has any emotion whatsoever.

weird group of band members.
actually a poppy catchy song.

I really dig the second song in that promo video. I feel bad for all of the normal people who go see them perform and have to deal with Hanson fans.

kellecaster: Hanson fans would be in their 20's now.

I am 23 and used to own a life-sized Hanson poster. It's probably still in my mom's basement and is perhaps the least embarrassing relic of my, shall we say, more motivated days of Hanson fandom. I went to a show a couple of years ago -- and it was a good show -- but the majority of their fans got older yet stayed the same.

What the hell TV show was that from? I dont think any host, or quality of production could be that bad. Am I the only one having a hard time believing this is meant to be taken seriously?

Yes, please.

bdatws1: needless to say, i disagree. billy corgan is a guitar god. it's not wanking when there's feeling behind it. someone like yngwie may be more technically proficient, but he's incapable of writing a guitar solo that has any emotion whatsoever.

If that emotion you're convey through your solo is 'Mommy didn't hug me enough and the kids in junior high made fun of me so now I take heroin because nobody understands my pain", which unfortunately seems to be the prevalent theme of 95% of music from the 90's, then you can keep your emotion and your guitar solo to yourself.

In the meantime, I say bring back more 3 minute toe-tappers about girls and getting drunk.

Sorry, even as a 33 year old, I can objectively say that Gen-X'ers are as bad as Boomers when it comes through viewing the music they grew up with through the distorted lens of nostalgia. Even worse considering the boomers actually did grow up with great music .. while the 90's will rightly be viewed as the dark ages of music. It's already starting to age horribly.

shoegaze99 2009-02-24 06:24:53 PM
This is pretty good. I'm not surprised. Can't remember if I said it here or somewhere else, but as odd as this mix of guys is, they've got three solid songwriters in there. Yeah, even the Hanson dude. Hanson bugged me, too, but that kid could write a catchy tune.

craigdamage 2009-02-24 07:01:15 PM
I am not quite 100% sure....but I seem to recall once hearing that it might be possible for a male to give a female oral sex.

/ simple shameless pop music is at least unpretentious

Godwin Alexander REALLY wanted that microphone back. He snatched it back from Hanson like a giant spaz.

ugh no. Billy Corgan is not a guitar god, he's a good songwriter, but not a guitar god and also a terrible lyricist.

John Frusciante is a guitar god, Billy Corgan is not in that class.

I would bet some serious cash that if there was some oral sex going on, (giving OR receiving) my money would be on *NOT* Peter Gabriel Genesis

lol

Yes, but it doesn't make it any better.

My gf is, *sigh*, a huge Hanson fan. As such, I've heard just about every song they've ever done...and seen them live three times in the past two years. Hey, don't judge me pal.

Hanson fans can be grouped into three categories: fatties, crazies and skanks. God help us, some of them overlap.

Verdict? I'm a sucker for cheesy pop to begin with, but their last two albums really aren't bad (re: post puberty). If you can let yourself not get hung up on the fact that you're listening to Hanson, the music is pretty good.

Wow.

Wasn't sure what to think based on the lineup, but I was quite pleasantly surprised.
