I watched that the other night on PBS
I enjoyed Eric Clapton and Carl Perkins more
It would have been nice if Dwayne was with them :-)

Meh.

Even though this song isnt so bad, Neil Young never really did it for me.

Cuchulane [TotalFark] 2009-02-22 04:32:55 PM
Simply fantastic. Even though most of my albums in the 60's and 70's were much heavier, primarily Sabbath, et al, I always made time for Neil Young. A powerful songwriter.

Thanks Submitter.

Thanks, subby.

I guess you had to be there.

loved him back in the day. don't listen to his music anymore - but when I do hear it, it sounds good.

I love Neil. I know he's old enough to be my dad, so it's kind of like a weird uncle-like love.

THIS (new window) is what happened when Rick James and Neil got together and had a song baby in 1966.

TheLopper 2009-02-22 05:03:52 PM
Neil Young is the man.

I think Greendale is an exceptional album, I listen to it all the time.

To all you baby farkers who don't like Neil: Tell me what artists you listen to today that will still be around after 40 years. I know the answer...none.

Here's the opposite from THE LAST WALTZ (new window)

Neil did a nosedive into a pile of coke, they had to spend $20,000 to rotoscope each individual frame to conceal the coke in his nose

They didn't call it The Last Waltz for nothing.

i like neil young better when he plays electric, like with CSN or crazy horse, but he kicks ass any way you slice it.

nope. it was neil who got the coke booger painted out. 'course scorsese and robertson were living together and hoovering up blow at the time, so i think it was probably pretty plentiful.

Farkomatic 2009-02-22 08:38:46 PM
I think Neil Young is great as long as he's no closer than 500' of an electric guitar.

radioman_ 2009-02-22 09:15:40 PM
Back in the day before music got so stratified we didn't think of Johnny Cash as being a country artist. He was just Johnny Cash. He was great. Anyone into music watched his show every week. I had the local "That 70s Show" basement and my old man was Red Foreman. Boot up my ass tough love. We'd be getting high down there and watching Johnny Cash on the portable and he'd be up in the living room with a beer watching the same show. Those were good times in America.

Still think this is the best version of this song I have heard. What is film 24 fps? 5 minutes of song. I guess they didn't have to do every frame but still a lot of colouring in.

Saw Neil a few weeks ago at the Gold Coast BDO. I really can't imagine him doing a better show. It was amazing.

to appease the teetotalers .

/the rest of us realize that it was part of what made music great back then.

Mother. farking. THIS.

I have been lucky enough to see a lot of great artists in concert, but "Cortez the Killer" live remains one of the highlight moments of my concert-going career. Truly epic, soul-stirring, heart-wrenching...

I suggest anyone track down the original 20 minute version of 60 to 0. It is truly an amazing song.

Neil never did acid. He's an epileptic, and was told by doctors early on that hallucinogens could do him some serious damage. So, just buds and occasional blow for the Neilmeister.

Yeesh, I hated the sneer on his face almost as much as his flat, shaky, falsetto voice while he sang. So bleeding boring. People in the room seemed to like it, though.

/still listens to "Old Man" every now in a while
//prefers the shenanigannery of the Eagles of Death Metal for higher-pitched crooning anyway

I usually prefer someone like Marissa Miller for the left hand. To each his own, I guess.
