The Acadamy Awards are like reading movie reviews. Not always a good measure of what you would like to see.

I think Hugh Jackman will do a fantastic job and not suck like all other Oscar hosts since Billy Crystal in his prime.

If not, my stiff little man and I will be available to console her. =P

That leaked Oscar list going around the Net was proved fake (the Sound Mixing people actually worked on WALL-E, not Dark Knight).

So betting the house in Vegas on something I found on reddit was a bad idea?

Gaaaaaahhhhh

This. My favorites were Milk and Frost/Nixon but Button will probably win best picture. Slumdog Millionaire was alright but not amazing or anything.

/Movie expert cause I saw all 5 yesterday

Is it that time of year again where we are so privileged to watch Hollywood's mass circle jerk?

Are they going to let the winners actually speak this year, or will they limit it to a couple of minutes so the host can have more air time?

Well, since they're not gonna have the interminable "Uma...Oprah...Oprah...Uma" travesty of a few years ago, perhaps.

But I am taking money on how long the telecast will go before someone makes a penis-related comment about the host's name.

My next door neighbors in my building are having a big Oscars party. It's the only time of the year that I can hear them through the walls. They put up big Oscar decorations on their door. This year they ran a red carpet from the elevator to their front door. Cute.

Cute is not the word I'd use.

At least they're decent neighbours for the rest of the year.

Slumdog Millionaire for Best Editing, easily.

Did anyone else read the story that the Academy Awards refused to let Michelle Williams accept the award on Ledger's behalf (if he wins) because they were never married and were only partners?

I hadn't seen that. Does anyone know who is accepting it for him? It's been a given that he'll win since the film came out.

The outside world is a cold and unfamiliar place which is highly overrated.

At the Golden Globes him family accepted it, and I think Nolan went on stage with them.

According to the NY Post, his dad will accept it. I read somewhere else that it will be given to his daughter.

I just switched on the eTalk at the Oscars... do they only employ hot asian women on the microphones? They're smokin hot, but it's a little odd that they'd sign up identical twins like that.

Why is Slumdog Millionaire nominated again?

If an Australian director that's never been to America shows up on our shows, does a movie about a poor minority that goes on Who Wants to be a Millionaire while stalling so that he can get noticed by a girl stolen by some pimp, and then after he saves her, they all break into a stereotypical 90's rap video, would that be considered a Best Picture nom?

/yes

The craptastic nominees this year have left me only interested in Ledger's posthumous win and cheering on Mickey Rourke over Sean Penn. As for the Academy crowning another movie they'll regret in 5 years...just...FARK, Slumdog Millionaire sucks.

Odd. I'm rooting for Slumdog and Danny Boyle, and I want Penn to win over Rourke.

I think Slumdog Millionaire will get Best Picture, but David Fincher, for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, will get Best Director.

DamnYankees [TotalFark] 2009-02-22 07:32:40 PM
I also want to nip this in the bud - please no one start ranting about how no one would care about Heath Ledger's performance if he was still alive. That's nonsense. Ledger's Joker was an incredibly highly-anticipated performance and everyone was very psyched for it. I have a hard time thinking of a more highly anticipated performance in a movie in the last 10 years - and this was all before his death.

He was amazing and should win.

Ashtrey 2009-02-22 07:33:54 PM
As long as before announcing "Best Picture" they say, "Sorry about Button, that was mix up form the Razzies. If we made anyone decide to go see that piece of shiat, please feel free to contact the Academy so you may kick us in the yambag."

skinink 2009-02-22 07:34:11 PM
List of nominees. And since this is the year that Heath Ledger is in the montage of dead celebrities, I predict he'll win the Oscar for Actor in a Supporting Role. And will get a big ovation both times.

/Safest prediction ever.

If Button wins Best Picture, that might be the end of the Academy Awards as any of sort of quasi-relevant event.
