The local fishwrap in Boston has spent the past week eulogizing him. They spend a day on Chappaquiddick. The series was kind of interesting- regardless of whatever you have to say about him, he's seen a lot of history.

I think the "he never said, but really should have" ruined the headline. I would minus one if I could.

Did someone say Chappaquidick? It's not to late to make a fleeting reference, is it? Look! I know about the event we're talking about! I'm funny!

There's something to admire about Ted Kennedy?

Lots of good legislative work, some bad. He went through a lot of shiat and must have been essentially scared for his life for a decade or two. He's not got the charm of John or the moral fortitude of Robert (I think if Robert Kennedy had lived to be President we might not yet have elected a Republican since), but he is a strong liberal voice in a country that seems largely filled with people that, since the 80s, have lost all pride in liberal ideas.

Same kind of cancer my dad died from...glioblastoma.
That one is 100% fatal- Do Not Pass 'Go (into remission)', Do Not Collect $200.

Surgery, chemo, and radiation will buy you about a year of 'quality time'...if you discount that the chemo and radiation treatments leave you feeling like shiat warmed over (and that's on the good days)...afterwards it's downhill fast and not merciful to prolong it.

It doesn't 'hurt'- the brain itself has no pain sensors...except for everyone else around and concerned...then it hurts plenty, believe me.

He was a negligent drunk and a slob who responded to Chappaquiddick not by atoning for his wrongdoing, but by continuing to behave like an ass for decades more. If his last name had been Smith, Ted would've been a political footnote and the New York Times would have spent the last 30 years giving John Kerry a tongue-bath instead.

You want a liberal who wasn't a craven appeaser of pressure groups? Here:

Ted couldn't carry Pat Moynihan's jock, let alone drink with him.

Thanks, Subby. The fact Chappaquiddick was mentioned suggests...something, but I'm not hopeful MA will evict their resident Camelot leftovers anytime soon. However, natural selection is doing an admirable job, so Darwin also deserves thanks.

Thanks, Beagle boy.
