If the birds were gulls, they should give them a medal.

Get your toes on the white line, you slimy worms.

all too easy

I like how TFA refers to the incident as a "wanton shooting". I'm trying to decide whether the it was the birds or the seamen in drag ...

ColPapa 2009-02-22 12:02:17 PM
For a second there I thought this headline was about Octomom's babies' daddy.

ctobio 2009-02-22 12:10:02 PM
Were these seamen wasted? I think the Navy needs to come clean here. These seamen could confess and get off, or at least get this off their chests.

This is hard to swallow.

Wow.... I'd hate to be those guys right now. All this bad press, can you imagine how much those guys' CO's are up their asses day and night?

And that isn't even going to be the worst part. They are probably going to lose their commissions, then have to pay the govt back for their USNA 'education'. Oops.....

Bird= British slang for a girl

Yes, I'd say if you are shooting "birds" with your semen you are doing it right.

Sounds like they're pilots in training. What a stupid thing to do and risk getting kicked out.

Salieri_82 2009-02-22 12:37:29 PM
That's a satisfying outcome.

If the Navy is like the Air Force, the guys will get a slap on the wrist.

Near the end of my pilot training one of my classmates got a DUI at the base's main gate. His punishment? They took away his F-15 and gave him an F-111 instead.

Of course, that was 30 years ago. Things might be different today.

Are they arresting all of us??

I came in for some money shot jokes.

I'm pretty sure they were shooting at tasty Chinese pastries.

/Wanton, Wanton, it all sounds delicious to me. . .

Dude, I heard the F-111s handled like the Space Shuttle. I'd consider not being able to do barrel rolls and that go-vertical-while-in-a-stall-move to be a downgrade.

/Plus, fighters are way cooler than bombers. . .

Well yeah, if they put him F-111s today, he'd be tending the Aardvarks at AMARC. F-111s are all retired now.

/still can't believe they tried to call the F-111 a fighter, and make the Navy use it as well
//its failure begat the Tomcat, though.

Gulls aren't protected, so it wasn't gulls.

Is it for religious reasons or do they just like living on the edge?

I guess their plan blew up in their faces.

Seaman was Merriwether Lewis's Dog, you know from "Lewis and Clark"

The book of Discovery doesn't say anything about Seaman getting shot.

That's because they told Merriweather he went to doggie heaven.

I want your D.O.R., officer candidates!

"Seamen" is not a generic term for people in the Navy, not even for the enlisted ranks. If they are enlisted the generic term would be sailors, or if they are officers (as in this article), you would say officers.

What this article did is directly equivalent to calling a group of lieutenants in the army "privates".

Good reporting there, Lou.

Excen: Dude, I heard the F-111s handled like the Space Shuttle.

It wasn't that bad, but wasn't a real air-to-air fighter, either. The irony of the situation is that he went to RAF Lakenheath and got picked for the raids on Libya, thereby being the first of my class to fly an actual combat mission.

ctobio: Well yeah, if they put him F-111s today, he'd be tending the Aardvarks at AMARC. F-111s are all retired now.

True, but when they retired the F-111s, all the crews transitioned to the F-15E. Not a bad upgrade... :D

If you're going to beat me to the image, at least mention he's wanted for questioning.

What a shame, that these young officers made this choice. Hopefully they will be punished by the civilian courts as well as the military courts. But not jail time. They are to valuable to this nation. Oh well, nuff said.
