Awesome song, I discovered it a couple of months ago. Any other cool AiC recommendations? And not like the emo crap Christi posted above, give me the good stuff.

From here:

"While the members of Alice in Chains have managed to distance themselves from a few of their more obscure early incarnations, it doesn't exactly take a team of CSI detectives to connect the dots between the band we know and Layne Staley's effeminate '80s cock-rock act, Alice 'N Chainz. This group of (alleged) men sporting bouffant hair and nancy boy make-up was arguably the most embarrassing of the band's many forerunners. Their now forgotten output from the '80s including sensitively titled tracks like "Fat Girls" and lyrically diabolical party anthems such as "Lip Lock Rock":

Lip lock, Lip lock, Lip lock, Lip lock, Lip lock Rock
Lip lock rock, Lip lock rock
Whoa

Suffice to say, song writing generally took a backseat to hair and make-up during this era. Perfectly illustrating the band's non-existent musical credibility is a line from their demo tape's thank you notes that reads "If you are blonde, tan, tasty, and tight, the boyz in the band love you lots"... And no, as much as some fans would like to believe it, we haven't gone off topic and started talking about Poison."

/not really putting them down, I just think it's funny

"Emo crap"? Your awesome-meter needs some recalibration, son.

AIC is good. But I can't stand Rooster.
/Oh yeeeeeeaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh.............

funktilious_j 2009-02-21 03:37:13 PM
I wish a radio station anywhaere would get the balls to play something besides "Rooster", "Would?" and "Man in the Box".

Play some "Dirt" or "Junkhead" of "Angry Chair". Or even "Godsmack" for cripe's sake.

Glad I have just about their entire catalog at home, and I play the shiat out of it.

funktilious_j 2009-02-21 03:38:03 PM
I also wish I could spell "anywhere".

The ultimate AIC song in my opinion! Saw them at the Troc in Philly. One of the best shows I've ever seen

I love Alice in Chains and am a grunge fan in general, but I still don't think we need a "Saturday Grungecall" ripoff of the Sunday metal link.

/favorite songs: Sludge Factory, God Am, Down In a Hole, Bleed the Freak, Rotten Apple, Nutshell
//whole unplugged album is amazing

The unplugged album is awesome. Layne sounded like he was near death (in a good way). STP's unplugged show was fantastic, but sadly they never released it as an album

I agree with this Grungecall thing. Although,I never thought of AiC as a grunge band. They started out, believe it or not, as a glamrock band. Then went Heavy Metal.

I've got all their studio albums except for SAP. I should pick it up some time, since it's super cheap.

My all-time favorite band. Favorite tracks would include "Sickman", "Got Me Wrong", "Junkhead", "Bleed the Freak", and one I never see mentioned on lists: "Shame in You" (new window)

/the Unplugged DVD is a must-own

SpaceLord 2009-02-21 09:57:16 PM
AiC was the shiat.

Harmonizing + heavy, depressing lyrics + metal overtones = pure win

Dirt is a dark masterpiece.

Midnight Rambler 2009-02-21 10:59:26 PM
Whenever I hear "Them Bones" I think about Layne laying dead on his couch for two weeks before anyone discovered him, and it makes me sad.

ravenlore [TotalFark] 2009-02-21 11:48:20 PM
While not AiC, one of my favorite Layne Staley vocal tracks is "River of Deceit".

What a voice. What a hottie. What a shame.

that goes for you too, Hetfield

Absolutely Unbelieveable, you guys. All this talk of Alice in Chains and not a single mention of We Die Young. You dudes are slipping.

karmachameleon 2009-02-22 11:17:08 AM
So let me get this straight: last week's posting of Soundgarden garnered a slew of ill-informed proclamations that Soundgarden wasn't actually grunge but was instead metal, but this week's posting of the even more metallic Alice In Chains garners none of that?

Just sayin'...

/they're both "grunge", whatever exactly that is

Third Day Mark 2009-02-22 12:50:07 PM
If you don't have it you should pick up AiC Unplugged.

g-booby 2009-02-22 03:18:50 PM
Saw AIC on Lollapalooza supporting Dirt. It was awesome.
