If it comes down to one dollar for a hamburger or one-hundred bucks for a cup of joe, that greasy heart-clogging goodness will win every time.

Plus, who wants to live by all those elitist Apple loving hippies?

eddyatwork [TotalFark] 2009-02-21 08:38:11 AM
Starbucks. At least you have a higher level of trash in the neighborhood.

Me. I do. I'll take insufferable but harmless every time.

This reminds me of the grade-school question, "Would you rather die by being stabbed or being shot?"

Lundah [TotalFark] 2009-02-21 09:04:13 AM
I live in Chicago, you can't swing a dead cat in this town without hitting at least one of each already.

shivashakti [TotalFark] 2009-02-21 09:09:09 AM
I live in a neighborhood with McDonald's. Personally, I'd rather live near Starbucks. Or better yet, a decent non-chain cafe.

Il Douchey [TotalFark] 2009-02-21 09:15:52 AM
Hmmm, let's see, fatties or snobs? Pigs or prigs? Actually, I'd prefer a Gum for Less outlet over either of those dives.

/Has to be full service GFL though, not an express kiosk

Psychotropic 2009-02-21 09:25:29 AM
I'm 12 miles from the nearest McDonald's and 24.5 miles from the nearest Starbucks.

CheddarPants [TotalFark] 2009-02-21 09:30:40 AM
McDonald's. Their coffee is at least as good as, if not better than, Starbucks. And if Starbucks ever started selling burgers, they'd probably charge $8 or $9.

angryjd 2009-02-21 09:35:56 AM
McDonald's. I don't drink coffee.

bimalc [TotalFark] 2009-02-21 09:41:58 AM
SBux, they're in nicer/safer/less likely to smell like pee neighborhoods (at least that's true where I am ....)

brigid_fitch [TotalFark] 2009-02-21 09:44:13 AM
My neighborhood has a Burger King, a Taco Bell, and a Boston Market, all in the same plaza. Closest Starbucks would be the Barnes & Noble cafe across the highway. McDonald's is a about a mile west of there.

Navigating through the beat-up Chevys, Fords, SUVs, and Saturns in the parking lot where the 3 fast food joints are is a nightmare. The McDonald's one is only slightly less insane because you're only dealing with one restaurant there as opposed to three. Both parking lots come with their various obstacle courses full of senior citizens and small children. I won't go near those places on the motorcycle.

The B&N parking lot is relatively quiet, although it's just as full as the other two. You'll see Toyotas, Hondas, Volvos, and the occasional SmartCar. No screaming children, no senior citizens, and nobody about to run you over.

I'll take the yuppies at B&N any day. I'd take the bike there, but that would mean passing the scary plaza across the highway. Some woman in a minivan nearly sideswiped me as she pulled out of Burger King last time I did.

angryjd: McDonald's. I don't drink coffee.

I don't drink coffee either and I still prefer Starbucks. I happily pay $2.50 for a tea at Starbucks, knowing that 1) I can have a choice from all different types depending on my mood, 2) I can use REAL MILK.

And if I'm hungry, I can have a decent sandwich.

As an elitist Apple loving hippy (yupfag if you want to be honest, but I ride a bike everywhere so whatev), I'd rather live near Micky D's. Starbucks is full of inconsiderate, self-important soccer moms who can't park or drive for shiat and the besuited douchebags chained to them.

Micky D's, I can always roll down for a Big Mac, a large fry, an apple pie, and a half gallon of Diet Coke, *and* read Fark on my MacBook Pro while I'm there.

muck4doo [TotalFark] 2009-02-21 09:55:17 AM
McDonalds. Gotta be near them McGriddles and Sausage McMuffins with egg.

/Usually eats light at lunch

Lionel Mandrake [TotalFark] 2009-02-21 10:20:18 AM
Neither. But if I had to, Starbucks.

I have one of each in my town, and I don't go to either, so it doesn't matter all that much.

Much more preferred. Although I don't drink coffee.

katerbug72 2009-02-21 10:46:31 AM
I prefer Starbucks to McDonald's. I enjoy the overpriced Chai Tea Lattes and they have some good munchables. Also, usually, there is a bookstore attached. (at least the ones I go to have that)

The Onanist [TotalFark] 2009-02-21 10:53:20 AM
Starbucks but I'd go to the local cafe instead. Better class of riff-raff.

Katie98_KT 2009-02-21 10:56:25 AM
Starbucks. I don't drink coffee so I look at tea and other non-coffee offerings- I can either have decent quality tea and some cool drinks at Starbucks, or "sweet tea" (aka, sugar water) or soda (aka, sugar water with FLAVORING!) at McD's.

I'll take starbucks.

Walker [TotalFark] 2009-02-21 11:38:02 AM
McDonald's. I hate coffee.

Lawnchair 2009-02-21 11:59:18 AM
80+ miles by road from the nearest SBUX, and that's just a kiosk in a Target.

/ western Kansas

SnatchTease 2009-02-21 11:59:34 AM
Duh, McDonald's coffee is better.

beantowndog [TotalFark] 2009-02-21 12:02:53 PM
I'd rather just get rid of the cash advance places. Build all the McStarbucks you want.

Huskadoodle 2009-02-21 12:02:59 PM
I'm repulsed by the thought of both.

Vern the Worm 2009-02-21 12:03:08 PM
Starbucks - The people that go there are funnier.

the_sidewinder [TotalFark] 2009-02-21 12:03:30 PM
Starbucks, I'd never give them business, but it would smell better than McDonalds, and it's not like I enjoy Mickey D's food

CygnusDarius [TotalFark] 2009-02-21 12:03:36 PM
Starbucks. It smells less horrid in the morning.

/There's a BK near my house
//So it kinda smells like french fires at a certain part of the day

angryjd: McDonald's. I don't drink coffee.

Neither do I, but Starbucks does a decent hot chocolate.

AmazingRuss 2009-02-21 12:04:06 PM
Starbucks, I guess. The people that go there are more likely to be scared of me than the other way around.

theorellior 2009-02-21 12:04:44 PM
Let's see, do I want to deal with people hopped up on fat and salt and caffeine or fat and sugar and caffeine?

FarkinHostile 2009-02-21 12:04:46 PM
Am I constipated? That is an important question.

ShamWowofDamocles 2009-02-21 12:04:57 PM
Starbucks. Hands down. The one I usually visit is near a UC school, but in a family neighborhood. The quality of tang, from college age up to cougars and soccer moms simply cannot be matched at McDonald's. Plus, I never hear screaming little children at Starbucks and don't have to watch them run all over the place.

CygnusDarius [TotalFark] 2009-02-21 12:05:18 PM
Umm, fires= fries.

/Oops

Okay, I'll admit, I LOL'd.

Bohemian 2009-02-21 12:06:02 PM
I will take pretentious yet harmless yuppie scum over the dregs of society that might rob you. Yuppies are also less likely to deal meth, have pitbulls running loose or have drunk shootouts in the middle of the street on a Saturday night.

I am not a snob, I am just sick of other people's shait.

Easy. I'd rather live near more yuppies than more white trash.

Starbucks, please.

French fires? The aroma of burning banlieues?

I came in here to say a non-chain cafe.. I hate starbucks but I hate McDonalds a little bit more. I remember one time asking for a capichino without sugar and them saying "sorry we don't have that mix". Wtf its expresso and milk.

You must live in a nice neighborhood.

No competition: Starbucks. I know where the Mickey Ds are in my town, and none are near the best neighbourhoods.

mtylerjr 2009-02-21 12:09:08 PM
As a fat Mormon... McDonalds.

Besides being horribly overpriced, Starbucks coffee tastes like shiat. Dunkin Donuts FTW.

Bob Ondeeznuts 2009-02-21 12:10:59 PM
I think there is a 7 to 1 ratio of Starbucks to McDonald's where I live, even after some of the Starbucks stores have closed.

Funny, my neighborhood Starbuck's is next door to an Arby's..
