God I hate those robocalls. In the last election I figured I was safe since I'm registered as non-partisan and every election before I was ignored which suited me just fine. This time I was wrong. Both sides bombarded me which pissed me off since there was no way I was voting for either major party.

Oh, what a great idea! People love getting those. Be sure to interrupt them at dinner time; that'll lock in their Republican vote for sure!

This. And keep it up for the next year and a half. You know your voters have short memories--you'll have to keep reminding them over and over again. Oh, and you'll have to keep the message vague and panicky--something like, "he's spending a trillion dollars of your money"--and hope they don't do something stupid like listen to NPR.

oldweevil 2009-02-21 11:09:31 AM
The sad thing is that these will work, because generally people that are stupid enough to vote Republican are the same people that will believe anything that is repeated over and over again.

/OMG he's a sekrit Muslin!!!

You're over a week late, subby. The D-Trip did this right after the first house vote.

Hope! Change!

Yeah, that's strictly a republican problem.

The GOP is just about tied with PETA for the award of Most farked Up Organization.
Congrats! Keep up the farked up work!

The problem with the Republican party is that it is based on primitive fear and loathing.

But can they win Las Vegas?

The Republican machine didn't vote for the stimulus because they're gambling that it won't work. then they can run in 2010/2012 on the stimulus didn't work platform. they know the sheeple will have forgotten about the fact that this economy dumped its load 4 months before Obama was sworn in as President.

Americans are pretty damn dumb enough to fall for it too.

They're trying to reach out to the other side of the aisle, and they've made certain assumptions about "those people".

RE: From the Office of His Royal Majesty King Paulson

Dear American:

I need to ask you to support an urgent secret business relationship with a
transfer of funds of great magnitude.

I am Ministry of the Treasury of the Republic of America. My country has had
crisis that has caused the need for large transfer of funds of 800 billion
dollars US. If you would assist me in this transfer, it would be most
profitable to you.

I am working with Mr. Phil Gram, lobbyist for UBS, who will be my
replacement as Ministry of the Treasury in January. As a Senator, you may
know him as the leader of the American banking deregulation movement in the
1990s. This transaction is 100% safe.

This is a matter of great urgency. We need a blank check. We need the funds
as quickly as possible. We cannot directly transfer these funds in the names
of our close friends because we are constantly under surveillance. My family
lawyer advised me that I should look for a reliable and trustworthy person
who will act as a next of kin so the funds can be transferred.

Please reply with all of your bank account, IRA and college fund account
numbers and those of your children and grandchildren to
wallstreetbailout[nospam-﹫-backwards]yrusaert*gov so that we may transfer your commission for
this transaction. After I receive that information, I will respond with
detailed information about safeguards that will be used to protect the
funds.

Yours Faithfully

Minister of Treasury Paulson

By election day 2010 the country and the planet will be well into a recovery. Repubs wont have an issue to run on and their attempt to move even further right will result in even more lost ground in congress. Setting the stage for a disastrous Palin run in 2012 which should be the final nail in the coffin for the party, fiscal conservatives will split off from the religious right whackjobs and the 21st century will see its first new political party in 2013. Which will probably take the white house in 2016.

Funny how it is that the same people that claim it is unfair that 76% of all taxes are paid by the wealthiest 5% (or whatever it is), then turn around and say "he's spending a trillion dollars of your money". Surely he is spending only a few dollars of most readers money (or less), almost all the funding for government spending comes for the very rich (as they pointed out earlier).

Goes well with their robocandidates.....

Bathia_Mapes [TotalFark] 2009-02-21 02:02:53 PM
Oregon made political robocalling illegal a couple of years ago. I think that's a step in the right direction.

Calvin Coolidge 2009-02-21 02:03:21 PM
"nearly a trillion dollars in wasteful spending"

Wasteful: spending money on schools, bridges, roads, and unemployment benefits so people can pay their bills, oh and tax cuts for people with an average or below-average income

Not wasteful: Blowing up people in Iraq and tax cuts on the top income brackets

Got it, GOP. GL with that.

LouDobbsAwaaaay 2009-02-21 03:13:16 PM
Yeah, that's the problem! The GOP didn't annoy us enough with their bullshiat wharrgarbl last time!

Just what kind of idiot do these robo-calls work on?

/oh yeah

Apik0r0s 2009-02-21 06:24:56 PM
The GOP could be doomed for decades to come. They've been holding fast against changing demographics that do not work in their favor. They managed to squeeze out a couple of very close callsin Presidential elections thanks to hard work by GOPers like Katherine Harris and Ken Blackwell. The Obama margin of victory was simply too much to be overcome this time around - and yes, the same patterns of voter disenfranchisement and EVote shenanigans in GOP controlled areas showed up in 08, it's just not that newsworthy because Obama won.

And now the Democrats are in control of the FEC, of the Census - and of Congress. All of the hard work that the Republicans have done in order to minimize the voices of minority and Democrat leaning voters is about to be undone. They will have to compete on a level playing field. They lost big on their rigged field, how's it going to work out for them next time?

Short of staging a "terrorist" event, I don't see how the GOP can pull out of this tailspin anytime soon. You think they're butthurt now? Just wait.

pnjunction [recently expired TotalFark] 2009-02-21 07:27:43 PM
Well they've got the 'robocallers' just sitting around. Probably irresistible for some idiot to record some bullshiat on there and unleash them. Until they suppress the idiots and extremists in their party, they'll continue to alienate the majority.

/good
