The_Sponge: If illegals stayed in their own farking country, this wouldn't be an issue.

You can't be an illegal immigrant in your own country. It breaks a fundamental law of grammar. Now sure, they're breaking a law either way, but there are grammar Nazis involved in one of those laws.

It's not worth going to the grammar gas chamber just to live somewhere you don't want to be anyway.

Joe Arpaio is the absolute scum of the earth. Anything that reduces his power over other human beings is a good thing. His actions against immigrants barely constitute the tip of the iceberg of this loathsome man's crimes.

Only one of those power-tripping self-righteous assholes has the ability to commit violence with impunity, though. While I'm hardly the biggest fan of Rage Against the Machine's political stupidity (or their music for that matter), they're several orders of magnitude away from the pure, malicious evil of Joe Arpaio and his gang of violent thugs.

Yep, that's a conservative for you: Railing against government power... Except when deployed against people you don't like.

At least Churchill is consistent in his ideas.

Yeah.. the last raid Arpaio help he arrested some 60 people for being in the country illegally. Several of those also got nailed for using other people's social security numbers.

Man, I hate it when people who break the law get caught.

I love how touchy feely ndlon.org is. What's wrong with making sure immigrants are here legally? Why don't they call illegal-immigrants what they are? Law breakers?

Isn't that what the "illeagle" implies? Although I do understand the confusion since so many people think that it just means "unfairly treated"

angrygrizzly 2009-02-21 03:39:43 AM
Maybe the federal government should actually have a policy regarding illegals, instead of press-friendly raids and slaps on the wrist for employers.

Deport the illegals or start a guest worker program. Whack employers of said illegals with $20,000 fines per person caught.

The reality is that everybody likes cheap produce, and employers like cheap labor. Until there's a concrete policy with teeth in it, ol' Arpaio gets to play his little game.

And a washed-up lead singer from a second-rate band isn't going to change that. But he might be able to milk himself some camera time.

Just like Joe.

Caesar Chavez bitterly fought to keep illegals out so they didn't undermine the quality if life for hispanic-americans. Too bad that lesson was lost.

How is being against illegal immigration "ignorant nativism"?

I would submit that it is contradictory to both be a supporter of Arpaio and contend that the government has too much power over our lives in this country. I have no idea if you hold the latter view, but it's generally part of the incoherent jumble of opinions that makes up the standard "conservative" combo package in the US, even if it's more empty talking point than substantive policy opinion.

Alvarado is referring to the segregation of the county jail and the parading of undocumented migrants shackled in a chain-gang through Tent City.

The proper term is illegal alien/immigrant.

Swampthing in Korea: How is being against illegal immigration "ignorant nativism"?

Well, being opposed to immigration is the definition of "nativism", and while there certainly are well informed, non-ignorant people who take that position (albeit mistakenly in my view), I generally wouldn't include in that category people who demonstrate what is clearly a hysterical "gut" response built on such substantively meaningless yet emotionally provocative talking points as "This is my country, not theirs."

If you're not respecting our borders, that's illegal. Fark it, why don't we just allow people from all countries to come over any mooch off of us?

I don't see where SIK said they were against "immigration". Nice try in moving the goal posts though. I'm all for immigration when it's done nice and legal. However, when you first step foot on our soil and you're breaking the law..i've got no love for you. When I travel to your country, I do it legally, why can't illegals do the same in mine?

Occam's Chainsaw [TotalFark] 2009-02-21 04:05:21 AM
Arpaio shiats all over the 4th Amendment on a regular basis. He uses intimidation and threat to cow any local opposition. There have been a number of questionable deaths of prisoners under his care. Any who defend him have no respect for the Constitution and rule of law, and therefore have no place in America.

It's illgeal to dwell in another country without permission, thus they are illegal in terms of status.

You do realize that the border was relatively porous prior to WWII and most ranchers in the South used migrant labor regularly? The majority of the ranches and farms in the Big Bend region, prior to the park being created, relied on it.

LocalCynic 2009-02-21 04:07:55 AM
skipjack: when you first step foot on our soil and you're breaking the law

Jaywalking is illegal. Therefore, anyone who walks across the middle of the street is "an illegal" and should be the object of everyone's hatred.

Churchill2004 [TotalFark] 2009-02-21 04:08:02 AM
The_Sponge: Ignorant nothing....if you're not here legally, you don't belong

That's assuming the laws should be in place, which would be begging the question.

The_Sponge: /My Grandparents immigrated to the U.S. LEGALLY, and nothing pisses me off like people "cutting in line"

You grandparents were able to immigrate legally because the law was different back then. The law no longer provides any legal pathway for unskilled workers to immigrate- illegally is the only way they can get into the country, period. It's not about "cutting in line"- we won't even let them get in line. And the line itself is a farking nightmare of endless bureaucracy that takes years, even decades, for no good reason.

The_Sponge: If illegals are so wonderful, let's have them move into your neighborhood, and see what that does to your property value

There hasn't been a single mass immigration in US history that you couldn't make that argument against. And if you're so worried about crime, maybe you should reconsider your zealousness for forcing the entire community to fear the police rather than just the actual hurt-people-and-steal-stuff criminals.

However, to be in the country undocumented and without permission is.

At that point, they have a right to be deported immediately.

It's not illegal to be alive.....sheesh.....do you need a roll of paper towels for your ridiculously hemorrhaging heart? Does someone need to call life alert for you to rush you to a liberal hospital where they show you pictures of puppy dogs and lollipops to make the bad man disappear?
