This guy is a chronic douchebag. There is nothing wrong with the sign or what it says. However he violated zoning regulations. It could say Pinellas Park is Paradise (trust me it is not) and it would still violate zoning.

It is the medium, not the message.

Yeah, it's a zoning violation. However, the Christians vandalized the sign, and that's what pisses me off, even if it's at a headshop.

You have obviously never been to Pinellas Park. The Christians just got there first, the atheists are in 3rd place only because they lost a fistfight to drunk bikers. The Asians would have done it but they were all checking out the new Asian market on 66th Street. Heck, the Muslims and Jews were just getting their paintbrushes out, but it was Friday so they had to wait a day.

Even the potheads think this guy is a putz. He alienates his customers and neighbors before anyone else.

I've not only been there, I went to school there long ago. Been past that shop many times over the years but can't say I know the guy personally. Sounds like you do.

I have no idea what feckingmoron's political views are, and if either they or the manner in which he presents them deserve ridicule, but I have a hard time imagining how anything he may have said in a past political debate could rise to the level of asshattery you just reached when you dropped that turd of a post in our lovely punch bowl of a thread.

It was just such an abrupt non-sequitur that I assumed it was a reference to your past dealings with him. The only connection I can see is that he was talking about a guy pissing off his customers, so... free market? Sorry for the misunderstanding, but I still don't see where the humor was supposed to be in it.

Because normally you hear someone say something like that and a person comes in who says something about Free Market Economy, and how he's obviously not driving away his customers, otherwise his business would fail, and then blah blah blah, Ron Paul, etc etc, Bacon.

yep, Florida is becoming just another dead end southern jesus state.

What's with the upside-down Pan-African Flag on the left? Is that supposed to mean something, or is this guy just being a douche to everybody?

Haha, it's like one of those pictures where the anus is standing in front of a mirror, holding a mirror so you have an infinity of anus'. (ani?, Anuss? Anuses?). Gonna need a stat confirmation on the plural of "anus".

Interesting. I went to Eckerd College about 9-10 years back (liberal arts college in St. Pete). It was nothing but pot and birkenstocks. The area must have really changed. Obama would have been considered too conservative then.

No surprise that Florida, like every other state, has backwater areas. Pinellas Park always fit that bill. Although, it did give of Fez from the Ron and Fez show, noon to three, XM 202. Then again Fez might not be a positive example.

Maybe I've missed it in the newspaper, but what is Jeb doing to steal? Unless he gets elected to the senate next year (god forbid), he hasn't had the power to do anything for awhile now.

One sign per business, not over 3 feet tall. What part of the law are you failing to understand? Work to change the law if you don't like it, but until then it's the law. Sympathy factor -1.

I live in a 100% residential area. I cannot have a sign up to promote my side business (piano teacher). While it would be nice to have a sign, especially as I live on the main road, I like living in a sign-free area. I advertise other ways.

In these tough economic times a retail store owner has found a way to attract local customers to his store. Wait... I don't think he thought it all the way through...

Just like "The Man" to come down on his free speech with zoning laws. Everybody knows they don't have to follow any laws when they're, like, protesting and shiat.

Damn.

/amazed at idiots that really believe this is only because of the message.

Personal speech and behavior are given much more latitude than business speech and behavior.

Sure there is an argument to be made that zoning laws violate his rights but it has been made, it lost, and it is silly to continue making it.

Eckerd still is pot and bierkenstocks. It is far enough south on the Pinellas county wang as to have not been Jeebus Freakified yet.

One nation under Obama?

Nah, the whole Obama-is-Messiah thing is a figment of the right's imagination.

I don't see why any business would put such an overt political statement out anyway. I mean, I guess if your politics are clear from the type of business -- a gay bookstore, perhaps, or a gun store -- but if not, why would you alienate a significant portion of your customer base like that? Especially in this economic climate?

Bad thinking? Ego? Who knows.

It's a crappy headshop to begin with. Smells of cabbage. Seriously.

It went blue last year so it's recovering. But like all recoveries, it's a long process with many relapses.

Zoning regulation is the most oppressive form of Government control over the average person, whether they realize it or not. This is where your local good old boys force you into certain locations to do business and limit your ability to leverage your home to make money. I've seen a small time woodworker and a mechanic shut down for working from their garages. Not for noise or environmental reasons - just YOU CAN'T DO THAT HERE.

They FORCE you to do business on a playing field they have already rigged for themselves.

You people wouldn't know a free market if it bit you in the ass.
