And when did Greeks ever wear the toga?

Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is!

Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?

Look guys, the rules are clear. Whichever party wins the games at the Homecoming Carnival becomes the leaders of the Greek council. There's no provisions for a multi-party government.

From wiki: "The names of North American fraternities and sororities generally consist of two or three Greek letters, often the initials of a Greek motto. For this reason, fraternities and sororities are often referred to as "Greek," as seen in phrases such as Greek community, Greek system, and Greek life. Members of fraternities and sororities are called "Greeks". An individual fraternity or sorority is often called a Greek house . . ."

And believe it or not, some people associate toga parties with fraternities.

/Now do you get it?

Excellent riposte, HighOnCraic.

Ladies and gentlemen, I'll be brief. The issue here is not whether we broke a few rules, or took a few liberties with our female party guests - we did.

[winks at Dean Wormer]

But you can't hold a whole fraternity responsible for the behavior of a few, sick twisted individuals. For if you do, then shouldn't we blame the whole fraternity system? And if the whole fraternity system is guilty, then isn't this an indictment of our educational institutions in general? I put it to you, Greg - isn't this an indictment of our entire American society? Well, you can do whatever you want to us, but we're not going to sit here and listen to you badmouth the United States of America. Gentlemen!

[Leads the Deltas out of the hearing, all humming the Star-Spangled Banner]

Thanks. How can anyone hear repeated chants of "toga toga toga" and not think of Delta House?

I believe that is a Futurama quote. We're shooting for classic film, not cult TV.

/Feel free to disregard the CSI quote. . .

That is quite possibly the funniest LOL I've seen in ages. I love silly memes that require a bit of education to understand.

I coulda sworn for authentic "greek-ness" it would have to be Stola, Stola, Stola... but that could just be the name of some other ancient garmet. All I've ever really needed to know are armor parts.

Thank you for pointing out the fail while I was away at dinner.

Everybody knows that Robot House had to compete in a raft regatta, not a homecoming carnival.

And if I recall, they didn't win control of Mars University's Greek Council. They just got their dodecatuple secret probation lifted and the Dean had to serve as grand marshal of a parade in their honor.

Wait, wait, wait. You mean contemporary animation often finds nothing wittier to do than retread and reference semi-obscure pop culture with which its audience may be familiar in a base attempt to elicit a cheap chuckle with the labor of another, far funnier, writer?

Inconceivable!

NICE headline, esp since I saw this movie uncut for the first time EVER only 3 days ago. Funny how you see something a hundred times, all censored and stuff, then see it in full 30 years later.

FTFA: Greek Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis said Friday that he is cool to the proposal for an all-party government taking responsibility for the economic crisis.

Turns out he didn't reject the proposal after all. He's cool with it.

tsiros 2009-02-21 07:36:44 AM
No, he isn't. He is cool (wtf??) about something slightly different. not about a collective government: 'there is already an elected party' or sth.
