I don't hate him nearly as much as most rappers these days.

As one of the few Farkers who is a true fan of rap music, let me state my piece. T.I. is probably one of the best five lyricists on the mic today. Which isn't saying much with today's jibberish trend in hip hop. However, it sucks that the hip hop genre will lose a talented member.

I will say this to the snarky Fark commenters. Not once has T.I. done what most rappers or most people in general would do in this situation. He hasn't gone around saying the cops came down on him because he's black, or because he's rich. He came forward, told it as it is, and took his punishment like a man. It's kind of sad for him. To be rich and black is dangerous, regardless of where you live. He felt like he needed guns to protect not only himself, but his family. The flipside of that is that he didn't take the proper steps to register those guns, and will have to pay the price.

The X loved this fool. When I heard his "music", I was sad because I realized that I am now OLD. Holy crap this stuff sucks. Where is Chuck D when you need him?

Doesnt he have a prior felony? Which means he cant own a gun never mind assault weapons. He is a pretty good rapper but defending this bone headed move is tough.

He talks about the situation on the song Ready for Whatever He explain why he thought he needed guns. It's still stupid, but it's not your typical excuses I guess.

And about T.I. being one of the top 5 lyricists on the mic today...
1. Jay-Z
2. Nas
3. Lupe Fiasco
4. Talib Kweli
5. Lil Wayne

I think TI is better than most, but I also think he's very over rated.

My top ten list goes like this...

10. UGK (mainly Pimp C)
9. Red Cafe
8. Eminem
7. Lupe Fiasco
6. Jay-Z
5. T.I.
4. Nas
3. Black Star
2. Outkast
1. Notorious B.I.G

Rappers usually fall off, but it's hard to knock Biggie Smalls. To this day, I think the greatest rap song ever is "Somebody's Gotta Die." If not one of the greatest songs of all time, that's debatable. Just the way it tells a story so clearly and fluid like water.

J'Rod3K 2009-02-20 07:42:53 PM
That's a respectable list, although I will admit that I haven't heard much of Red Cafe. Can't go wrong with the rest though.

UGK is great, Bun B and Pimp C's styles worked well together. I can't decide which I like better. Bun B has lyrics, Pimp C just tells it like it is...haha

My top ten: (The five I listed before were the lyricists still rapping today that I think are better than TI)

10. Rhymefest
9. UGK (Based of their last CD alone, haha)
8. The Fugees
7. The Roots
6. Eminem
5. Kanye West
4. Lupe Fiasco
3. Brother Ali
2. Nas
1. Jay-Z

I didn't put too much thought in the order. It's hard for me to leave off Outkast, 2Pac, and Biggie but I'm not huge fans of any of them, but I respect what they've done and still listen to them, they're just not in my personal top ten...if I made a list and didn't factor in my personal opinion and went with who I thought was best based on skill, influence, etc they'd be on it. But this list is just my personal favorites.

J'Rod, just the last UGK album? You gotta hear Ridin' Dirty. "Murder," "One Day," and "Diamonds and Wood" are some of the best rap songs ever.

I know, I need to go back farther into their catalog. I have heard very good things about Ridin' Dirty.

But their last cd is ridiculously good, agreed?

OK let me get this straight- If you're a big time felon rapper and you try to buy an 'arsenal' you get a year in the joint but they let you cash in first by going on a farewell tour. If you're Randy Weaver and you sell an illegal shotgun they kill your wife and dog and ruin your life WITHOUT THE BENEFIT OF A TRIAL. Stop whining, pull up your pants, and raise your farkin kids! YOU HAVE NO MORE EXCUSES.

Hmm, the old "apples to oranges" fallacy, but with a great twist and an unexpected connection. But you're too late at night for many bites. 6/10.

Oh....you were doin ok til #5. That pretty much invalidated any post you've ever made on FARK and any post you may make in the future. Your defense of LIL Wayne has put you in post debt...feel bad.

/I want to kill lil wayne in the face with fire.

There's a reason he was last on the list. He has a lot of potential, but most of the songs he's put out in the past year are BS. But from 06-07 he was consistently putting out quality material. Carter II, Dedication II, Drought III, etc are all quality. But it is hard for me to defend anything since then.

"(You can have) Whatever You Like" will take on deeper meanings once he's intro-ed to his celly.
