Summing up the Article in Bus ads.

Bus 1: "God doesn't exist"
Bus 2: "Yes he does."
Bus 3: "Nu-huh!"
Bus 4: "God Exists, and Mohamed is his prophet."
Bus 5: "WTF? We are talking about the real God here!"
Bus 6: "Allah-Akbar!"
Bus 7: "Why don't you all decide WTF God is before coming back to these buses."
Bus 8: "INFIDEL!" *KABOOM!*
Bus 9: "Now see what you atheists have done?"

CrankMyBlueSax 2009-02-20 12:58:38 PM
Well I guess that settles it then.

Damnit, the billboards on buses (BOB) is our idea. We let you put up billboards all over the country along highways and interstates, put crosses all over the place, occasionally put up the 10 Commandments in front of a courthouse, and have programs you buy time for on television. Let us have our BOB. Just give us BOB, you selfish religious asshats.

Yeah, but God created the bus...and the home, and the road.

So He should already have found His way home...or at least been smart enough to have taken a cab.

FTA: "We would love to have them in our places of worship and in our community centres so we can sit down and talk."

That's code for saying that they want atheists and agnostics to show up so that they can inform them how they will burn in Hell unless they accept God.

Because nothing is an inviting to a non-believer than the threat of eternal damnation if you don't join their religion.

Fark always manages to knock my faith in humanity down one notch.

I liked the Atheist message because it basically said: 'Look, there may be a god, but there may not be a god. Regardless if true or not, there's nothing you can do to change it, so stop worrying and enjoy life instead.'

I liked that message.

The people who started this bus-gate can't be angry at where this went because they were the ones who started it. No one was doing anything until they got pushy.

Some Christians made the first bus ads, then some Atheists made some to counter them and now someone else is countering the countering. The question comes down to: where/when does it stop?

Actually, the better question is: who the hell still read bus ads?

I don't really get the point of the atheist ads. Is it to piss people off? Get them to not go to church? Actually convert someone?

Isn't this just doing the exact same thing as Christians putting up billboards (a practice which I would describe as mildly irritating)?

Dr Dreidel 2009-02-20 01:20:51 PM
Well, I don't eat bacon, but I don't ride the bus either. I consider myself a Jew (so I'm not represented in any of these ads), but I'm an apatheist. Not sure what to do...ERROR-ERROR-ERROR

No, wait. I'll stop worrying and get on with my life.

Everyone believes in the Divine, Providence, God.

For some, it is a transcendental, omnipotent, all-loving Creator.

For others, it is themselves, their egos, their wants.

As has been pointed out in each of these threads, the aim is to let closet atheists know they're not alone. People who grow up indoctrinated in religious households often think there's something wrong with them for not being able to believe in the mythology of their family and friends.

From what I saw, the Atheist ads were to counter the Christian ads that said that you should choose god and whatnot. So, its not like the Atheist ads started this first.

I believe that's what the story has been so far. Does anyone have the article for it?

With all the churches and crap out there, it is sometimes nice to see a reminder that not everyone is a member of the Jesus King's Kids Club. I know sometimes religious people mistakenly believe that atheists have no morals or feelings, but unfortunately, we lack these super powers and are occasionally susceptible to things like loneliness or feeling slightly ostracized.

However, all of these take place in other, more hardcore, Christian nations. Christians in the US are pussies when it comes to crucifixion reenactments and self-flagellation.

So that would be like 5000 different religious buses and one atheist one.
