Who?

Dogbeast [TotalFark] 2009-02-20 07:01:34 AM
They're an American band who had to come to the UK to get famous because none of you feckers have any taste.

wow. they even look like a bunch of douchebags.

Too bad their new stuff is pretty awful.

My favorite King of Leon is probably Alfonso X, but I've got a soft spot for Alfonso VIII

So, they're a pretentious crap band with fighting brothers in it who had to go overseas to achieve recognition?

Guess we finally paid you bastards back for Oasis, then.

great band, been a fan since "Youth and Young Manhood" (...I know...cliche..."I was there from the start). In any case, they keep getting better, glad to see that they are finally having success in north america with this album.

They're not very good live.

i hear ya. i was an early adopter too - my favorite is their sophomore "aha shake heartbreak" - but i must say i was very disappointed in their newest CD. it starts off really strong, with "crawl" and "sex on fire" both being incredible rock songs, but the whole second half is a serious snooze-fest.

i'm hoping they get back on whatever uppers were fueling their first three records.

I prefer Alfonso Ribeiro, myself.

Actually it's the other way around. They were a great band, but have been steadily going downhill since Youth and Young Manhood.

oops...lost my head there, forgot that on the internet bands only get worse with time, improving abilities = more suck

This band's appeal, I don't get.

toobsok 2009-02-20 01:07:59 PM
This is their appeal.

Link (new window)

They make some good music. If you listen to this song and don't move around a little bit, you're probably dead.

I like their album "Because of the Times" the best. Check it out, it is worth it.

Only heard the singles by these guys; I assumed that "Sex on Fire" got big radio play because, well, it has the word 'sex' in the title and the stations that play it are aimed at a demographic for which sex fits in above food, clothing and shelter in the level of importance. It's an okay song, but I've heard far better by bands that don't do as well. *shrugs* They're okay, but I don't get the hype.

Not too sure about this story, seeing as the day after the Brits they were pictured in the London papers having fun and drinking at an aftershow party.

Is this possibly a case of a British tabloid blowing something tiny out of proportion / making some shiat up completely? Say it aint so.

3rd album = hey, where are you guys going?

4th album = oh well, nice knowing you

i was more like:

1st album: interesting

2nd album: this band is destined for greatness

3rd album: close to greatness, but not quite there

4th album: d'oh! you went overtly commercial

still one of my favorite contemporary bands, though. hope they do something a little less radio friendly next time.

pretty much this. They're not groundbreaking, but still a fun band to listen to. The fact that hipsters seem to hate them only makes me enjoy their music more.

I'm a fan.

I'm not going to say that they're teh suck, because I do know some people with decent taste who actually like them quite a bit.

But I really, really don't get the appeal.

And yes, I've seen them live. It didn't help.

ass2mouth 2009-02-20 02:50:45 PM
The new CD really ruined it for me. I have more of a problem with their overly obsessive fans than I do with their new work. To make matters worse I just saw them on MTV.

/bracing for a thousand new d-bag kings fans

Not to mention that their family.

Family, especially brothers, getting into fights!? Never!

They're probably the types of guys who throw a few punches and laugh about it over beers later. They get the anger out and then let it go instead of letting it fester and going to therapy 20 years later.

/Kings fan
//only has the first two albums though, and is apprehensive about getting their latest two now

i echo these sentiments...saw them at Voodoo fest in 2006 and i was not impressed with their live show...however, The Flaming Lips put on one of the grestest live shows EVER...i dont care if they've been doing the same show for 10 years, its always amazing

The singer's got some pipes, you gotta admit that.

Hate them? They're one of the top bands hipsters listen to where I am.

This makes me laugh because while hammered last Saturday I spent 30 minutes arguing the fact that KOL is basically Oasis wanna bes.

His voice is unique and I like it, but "got some pipes"? Compared to Lou Reed maybe, but he squeaks through most of their songs.

They were trying to have some hits and apparently succeeded with
the last album.

People forget but 'The Joshua Tree' got bad reviews when it came out, too.

Why didn't anyone tell me Shirley Manson was in the Sarah Connor
Chronicles?

ROFLOL! I'm not the only one who notices the squeakiness.

Without the squeak Caleb would sound exactly like Eddie Money.

I agree with this completely, well stated.

And to others, I hope that you are kidding when you say they arent good live... KOL put on a phenomenal live act, one of the best I've ever seen.

my sister in Ireland really likes them and suggested them to me. Just checked out some of their stuff and for the most part, meh. Stuff from their first album is ok. you know what they ay in the record business - You have your whole life to make your first record, ,and six months to make your second.
